Despite snowy start, weather is looking mild for the week ahead in Springfield
A cold front with snow blew through southwest Missouri, including Springfield, on Monday, canceling in-person classes for many area schools. However, more days out of school don't seem to be in the forecast.
According to the National Weather Service office in Springfield, temperatures should warm up through at least Saturday. Residents can expect to see highs in the mid 50s to low 60s for the rest of the week.
The NWS also doesn't foresee any more snow in the area this week, though there is a chance of rain throughout the day Friday.
Don't pack away your coats just yet, though. Saturday's forecast boasts lows in the 20s and highs in the low 40s. Sunday will warm up a little, with highs in the low 50s.
As of noon Monday, the Springfield NWS reported measuring 0.8 inches of snow, which had all melted as temperatures warmed up to 39 degrees.
Springfield Public Schools canceled classes Monday due to the potential for heavy snowfall. Nixa, Republic and Branson also canceled in-person and virtual classes, while Willard and Logan-Rogersville announced they would hold Alternative Method of Instruction days, which means students do not report to school in person and are either given assignments or expected to learn virtually.
