A couple inches of wet snow are possible Friday in southeast Wisconsin, meteorologists say, with the potential to make a messy Friday morning commute.

In lakefront counties such as Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha, the chance for more than 2 inches of snow is nearly nonexistent, according to the National Weather Service in Sullivan.

Farther north and west, there is a good chance that at least an inch of snow will fall. The Wisconsin Dells and Portage area are the most likely to see more than 2 inches.

Southern and eastern counties likely will see a mix of rain and snow as Lake Michigan keeps temperatures higher, said weather service meteorologist Paul Collar.

The round of precipitation is expected to begin late Thursday afternoon or evening, with the most snow falling Friday morning. It is expected to taper off by Friday afternoon.

The snow won't be a major storm, Collar said, and is typical for December in southeast Wisconsin.

"We're due for some winter weather," he said.

Collar urged residents to keep up-to-date with the forecast, as the track of the storm could change as Friday approaches.

He also asked people to be cautious when driving Friday morning, as high rates of snowfall could coincide with rush hour.
