Snow, frigid temperatures expected in Nova Scotia this weekend
Nova Scotia is experiencing the first blast of winter for 2024 this weekend.
Light snow In Cape Breton will begin tapering off Saturday night.
Another weather event is heading into the province for Sunday, when major snowfall amounts are possible from Halifax, to Windsor, up toward Yarmouth.
It will begin in the morning in the western part of the province before spreading east as the day progresses.

Halifax Forum to open as temporary shelter
The conditions will make it harder for those living in tent encampments across the province.
A temporary shelter will operate out of the Halifax Forum from noon Sunday until noon Monday, with beds for 50 people. Transportation will be available to those in need.
Anyone experiencing homelessness can call 211 to learn more about shelter options across the province.

It's still too early to determine just how much snow will fall, but CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin says she expects 10 to 20 centimetres for Shelburne, Queens, and Lunenburg counties, and five to 15 centimetres from Halifax to Windsor.
Winter storm warnings have been issued by Environment Canada for Lunenburg, Queens, Shelburne and Yarmouth counties.
Special weather statements have been issued for Annapolis and Digby counties and Halifax Metro and Halifax County West.
A cold snap will make the weekend even more challenging, CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin said. "The stage is set for really cold air … we're in the freezer all weekend."
