Will snow lovers in central Pa. rejoice this winter? 'The Old Farmer's Almanac' says ...

Ready for a cold, snowy winter?

That's what the "Old Farmer's Almanac" predicts is in store for southcentral Pennsylvania this year.

It is predicting above-normal precipitation and snowfall for the Appalachians region, which includes southcentral Pennsylvania.

"The snowiest spells will occur in late December, mid- to late January, and early to mid-February," the almanac predicts.

The "Old Farmer's Almanac" seems to agree with the "Farmers' Almanac," which issued its winter prediction earlier this month. That publication, which dates to 1818, is calling for a "frosty, flakey and slushy" one.

"For those of you living along the I-95 corridor from Washington to Boston, who saw a lack of wintry precipitation last winter, you should experience quite the opposite, with lots of rain/sleet and snowstorms to contend with," the "Farmers' Almanac" forecast in a news release.

Will there be a white Christmas?

Residents in southcentral Pennsylvania hoping for a white Christmas are out of luck, according to the "Old Farmer's Almanac." It predicts one in the higher terrain of West Virginia in the north but nowhere else.

Chances of receiving an inch or more of snow for Christmas is low in the region, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate website.

York, for example, only has a 15% chance.
