NEW BEDFORD — The following parking bans, closures and cancellations have been announced regarding the impending snowstorm.
The National Weather Service has increased its snowfall prediction for a storm that's expected to hit the region early Friday, saying it will likely drop 6 to 8 inches of snow on the region.
The Weather Service has also upgraded a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning for southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, from 1 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday. A winter storm warning is issued when 6 inches of snow is expected in the next 12 hours or 8 inches is expected in 24 hours.
The snow should arrive between 3 and 5 a.m. and could fall at rates of 1 inch per minute between 6 and 9 a.m., according to the Weather Service.
DARTMOUTH: Parking ban will be in effect from 6 p.m. Jan. 6 to 12 a.m. Jan. 8 (essentially midnight on Friday night). No parking on hydrant side of street; if no hydrants, park on the even house numbered side.
FAIRHAVEN: No vehicles shall be permitted to remain on the hydrant side of all streets in Fairhaven from Dec. 1 to March 31 from midnight to 8 a.m. and also during the time of any snowfall or snow removal operations. On streets with no hydrants, NO vehicles shall be permitted to remain either on the east side of streets running north and south or on the north side of streets running east and west.
NEW BEDFORD: A citywide parking ban will take effect at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, and will remain in effect for 48 hours. Parking is permitted on the north side of all streets going east and west, and is permitted on the east side of all streets going north and south.
Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School will be closed Friday, Jan. 7
Dartmouth Public Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 7, for a traditional snow day.

Acushnet Public Schools will be closed Friday
New Bedford Public Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 7, for a traditional snow day.
Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School will be closed Friday.
Westport Community Schools will be closed Friday, with no afternoon activities or extended day.
All Saints Catholic School will be closed Friday; SAL Snow Day
Holy Family-Holy Name School: will be closed Friday; SAL Day.
St James-St. John School-New Bedford will be closed Friday; Student Alternative Learning
St. Francis Xavier in Acushnet will be closed Friday for a traditional snow day.
Bristol County Agricultural High School will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7.
Montessori School of the Angels will be closed Friday.
Nazarene Christian Academy in New Bedford will be closed Friday.
Bishop Stang High School will be closed, but it will be a SAL day.
Fairhaven Public Schools will be closed Friday.
Old Rochester Regional schools will be closed Friday.
UMass Dartmouth will be closed Friday.
Bristol Community College will be closed Friday.
Bridgewater State University will be closed Friday.
Massasoit Community College will be closed Friday.
Freetown-Lakeville Public Schools will be closed Friday.
Rob Roy Academy (New Bedford) will be closed Friday.
Alma del Mar Charter School will be closed Friday.
New Bedford: COVID-19 testing provided by Seven Hills Behavioral Health at former Fire Station 11 in the South End has been canceled for Friday, Jan. 7, due to the expected winter storm. Seven Hills will add testing hours, however, at the Brock Avenue location on Tuesdays starting next week. As of Jan. 11, Seven Hills will offer testing at former Fire Station 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Bristol Elder Services Inc. will have no Meals on Wheels on Friday.
New Bedford City Hall and city offices will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7.
New Bedford public libraries will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7.
Buttonwood Park Zoo will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7.
New Bedford Regional Airport will remain in operation as conditions permit.
Rotch Jones Duff House & Garden Museum will be closed Friday.
New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park will be closed Friday.
Trash pickup delays
New Bedford: Trash pickup for Ward 6 in the South End Delayed to Saturday, Jan. 8.
Westport: The transfer station will be closed Friday.
The New Bedford Department of Public Infrastructure has made sand available to city residents at several locations throughout the city. Residents are advised to bring their own small container to collect the sand at any of the following locations:
Corner of Liberty Street and Smith Street
Brooklawn Park parking lot, next to Brooklawn Senior Center
Parking lot at 773 South 1st Street, across from Dennison Memorial Community Center
