Snow sets its sights on Atlantic Canada as colder trend settles in
After dealing with the remnants of Hurricane Nicole on Saturday, followed by a round of messy, wintry weather on Sunday, a third system in just days is on its way to Atlantic Canada this week. Each system has become slighly colder and that trend will continue, bringing some of the first accumulating snowfall to regions like southern New Brunswick. More on this colder than seasonal pattern taking shape, below.

This week: Additional snow as temperatures stay colder than seasonal
Snowfall warnings remained in effect for parts of northern New Brunswick early Monday, with an additional 5-15 cm forecast in the hardest hit places.
Newfoundland began to see the impacts from this storm during the pre-dawn hours Monday, with precipitation starting as freezing rain and a wintry mix across the southern and central areas of the island.
Freezing rain, ice pellets and a slushy snow will intensify over the region throughout Monday afternoon as the system progresses farther north, running into cooler air. Temperatures, however, will be mild enough across the south and over the Avalon Peninsula throughout the day to allow for rainfall. The system will depart the region by Monday overnight.
The heaviest snows will fall across the northern half of the island, with 20-30 cm possible along the southern sections of the Great Northern Peninsula.

As each system becomes slightly colder, more snowfall is expected this week with the region remaining locked in an active pattern.
"This next system mid-week will bring the first accumulating snowfall to southern New Brunswick, starting through the afternoon on Wednesday and becoming heavier into the evening," says Matt Grinter, a meteorologist at The Weather Network. "Northern Nova Scotia is also looking at snow, especially on the Cobequid Pass."
Cooler than seasonal temperatures are expected for most of the week.
