Snowfall causes congestion on East Tennessee roads

Knoxville missed a white Christmas just by a day.

As snow flurries took over the area following the weekend's arctic chill, congestion piled up East Tenessee's roads.

Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson Mark Nagi advised caution as temperatures are expected to stay below freezing until Tuesday morning.

National Weather Service predicts snowfall until late Monday evening. The snow follows record cold temperatures over the weekend. A wind chill warning was issued Friday lasting through Saturday afternoon with winds gusting up to 50 mph.

But, weather is predicted to get warmer in the next few days.

  • Tuesday: Clear sky predicted with a low of 24° and a high of 42°.

  • Wednesday: Will also be clear and mostly sunny with a low of 25° and a high of 51°.

  • Thursday: Predicted to be a little cloudy with a low of 29° and a high of 53°.
