The College Baseball Foundation's annual First Pitch Luncheon scheduled for Tuesday at the Memorial Civic Center was postponed on account of the cold, snowy weather in Lubbock.

The event has been rescheduled for Jan. 31. The time and location of events that day will be the same, according to Mike Gustafson, president and CEO of the foundation. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the program is scheduled to begin at noon.

The featured guests for the program are former Texas Tech all-America third baseman Josh Jung of the Texas Rangers and Emily Jones of the Rangers' broadcast team.

The National Weather Service reported 7.1 inches of snow fell Tuesday in Lubbock, a record for the date.

LCU softball

Lubbock Christian University is picked fourth out of 15 teams in the preseason Lone Star Conference poll of coaches, sports information directors and media released Tuesday.

LCU finished 39-12 last season, including 23-7 and tied for second place in the LSC. The Lady Chaps went 2-2 in the NCAA South Central Region tournament.

UT Tyler is the overwhelming favorite this season, receiving 35 of the 37 first-place votes. The Patriots were 49-9 last year, winning the conference for the second year in a row as well as the regional title.

Rounding out the top five are Angelo State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, LCU and Oklahoma Christian.

LCU opens the season with 14 consecutive home games, hosting tournaments from Feb. 3-5 and Feb. 9-12 and then hosting UT Tyler on Feb. 17-18 in a conference-opening three-game series.
