Need to use soap when washing hands. Warner Robins restaurant fails health inspection

Employees failing to wash hands properly or wear a hairnet and food above required food temperatures for food safety contributed to a Warner Robins restaurant failing its routine health inspection in June.

96 Vietnamese Cuisine at 810 Ga. 96, Suite 600-700, received a “U” for “unsatisfactory compliance” with a score of 64 at its routine inspection June 28, according to what was reported Friday in the state health department’s online portal.

The restaurant bounced back with a 91 for an “A” for “food safety excellence” at its required followup inspection June 30.

Environmental health inspectors assign grades based on how many points are deducted from 100, with scores of 69 and below considered failing. Follow-up inspections are required when a restaurant fails its routine inspection and generally take place within 10 days.

Failing grade

At its routine health inspection June 28, 96 Vietnamese Cuisine lost points for not having a person in charge on site at the restaurant to make sure employees followed food safety protocols, according to the inspection report.

The environmental health inspector saw an employee who handles food improperly wash his hands, the report said.

“The food handler only rinsed his hands without applying hand soap to his hands and using his hand to turn off the water before getting the paper towels to dry his hands,” according to the report.

A food handler also was observed cutting jalapenos without wearing gloves and placing the jalapenos on a sandwich to serve to a customer, according to a report.

Additionally, a food handler was seen preparing and handling food while not wearing a hair restraint, according to the report.

Meanwhile, a container of bean sprouts was stored on a counter and was above the required safe food temperature, while food stored inside a prep cooler was above the required temperature for food safety, according to the report.

The inspector also saw “a pink substance” building up on the baffle on the inside of an ice machine, while the floor underneath and behind a fryer was heavily soiled with layers of grease, according to the report.

At prior routine inspections, 96 Vietnamese Cuisine received scores of 92 on Feb. 3, 2023; 93 on Sept. 21, 2022; 91 on April 7, 2022; 81 on Dec. 9, 2021; 82 on March 9, 2021 and 91 on Oct. 28, 2020.

Also, the restaurant scored a 100 on July 16, 2021 after receiving a 74 on July 13, 1974. Additionally, the restaurant scored a 100 on its initial inspection on Aug. 20, 2020 prior to opening.
