Soar Among Seagulls as Drone Follows Flock Over Montauk

Beautiful drone footage offered a quite literal bird’s-eye view over Ditch Plains in Montauk, as the device flew among a flock of seagulls earlier this month.

The video, shot by Joanna Steidle of Hampton Drones, shows the birds in what she described to Storyful as a “feeding frenzy” after recent winter storms.

“Seagulls are scavengers and they act accordingly often fighting with each other over a clam,” Steidle said. “With their faces always in the wind, I watched them glide, hover and feed for hours with tremendous delight.”

However, she recommended that beginner drone pilots do not attempt to fly near birds, explaining that she has “spent years studying their habits before flying this close.” Credit: Joanna Steidle via Storyful
