'Fathoms Below'

The Tamarind Institute is hosting a free open house from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 15. Visitors will be treated to workshop demonstrations, a gallery tour and a courtyard reception. The Tamarind Institute is located at 2500 Central Ave. SE.

Vibrant violets

The Albuquerque African Violet Club is hosting its annual show and sale 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 15, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, April 16. The theme for this year is "Violets Celebrate the USA." The free event, held at the Albuquerque Garden Center, 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE, will feature violets and streptocarpus for sale, along with demos and growing tips.

A learning experience

The Rotary Club of Rio Rancho is hosting a career day event for local eighth graders.

From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, students and their parents are invited to the Rio Rancho High School Auxiliary Gym, 301 Loma Colorado Dr. NE, in Rio Rancho.

Professionals in a array of fields, including computer science, education, engineering, health services, science and more, will be on hand to answer questions and distribute resources. The event is free and open to the public.

Singer Ashley McBryde is coming to Isleta Resort and Casino's The Showroom concert venue.
