Soccer obstacle course joins annual Fall Fest fun at Greensburg YMCA

Oct. 20—People attending the annual Fall Fest at the Greensburg YMCA may have their portrait drawn by a local caricature artist and kick a soccer ball through an obstacle course of cones.

Those new offerings will debut during the event set for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Y at Maple Avenue and Pittsburgh Street. Admission is free for all, including Y members and nonmembers.

"This is really a great way for us to show off our facility and programs while providing the community a night of free entertainment," CEO Suzanne Printz said. "This is a fun event for the entire family."

The event returned last year after a hiatus following the arrival of the covid-19 pandemic.

"We received a lot of positive feedback on the Fall Fest's return, and, because of the generosity of our great sponsors, we have been able to sustain it at no charge," Printz said.

Artist Andy Balko, who will create free caricatures of visitors, previously put his talent to work at the recent Summer in the City celebration in downtown Greensburg, organized by the Greensburg Business and Professional Association and the Greensburg Community Development Corp.

Among returning Fall Fest activities is pumpkin "fishing" and decorating. Participants may choose from a selection of small pumpkins that will be placed in the Y Warm Pool, according to Ron Wahl, director of marketing and communications; alternatively, they can pull their pumpkin from a trough.

Also featured will be face painting, a bounce house, games and a truck display by the Greensburg Fire Department. Music will be provided by Larry the DJ, and tours of the Y will be offered.

Family Fun Nights at the Y, usually held the third Friday of each month, will begin Nov. 18 and will continue through March.

The Y pool will be open for these events, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and other activities will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Y members get in free; there is a $5 charge for nonmembers.

"Grateful, thankful and blessed" is the theme of the Nov. 18 event, which will feature sports in the gym and crafts.
