SOCCER ROUNDUP: Coyotes edge rival Raiders, 1-0

Juan Corona scored off a rebound in the 54th minute, accounting for the only goal in Wichita Falls High’s 1-0 victory against rival Rider on Friday at the MSU Showcase.

It’s the only time the two rivals will meet this season now that they’re in different classifications.

The Coyotes went 2-1-1 during the showcase, beating Saginaw 2-1 and tying Kennedale in a scoreless match. The Coyotes capped the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Highland Park.

Rider played Fort Worth Nolan Catholic to a scoreless tie Thursday, but its Saturday match against Fort Worth Trimble Tech was moved to 5 p.m. Tuesday at MSU.

Old High travels to Stephenville at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

LADY RAIDERS GO 3-0

The Rider girls soccer team finished the United Invitational with a 4-0 record, wrapping up the tournament with a 5-2 victory over Abilene Wylie on Saturday.

The Raiders (7-2-1) opened with a 2-1 victory over TAPPS powerhouse Ursuline Thursday before blanking Burkburnett 12-0 and Texas Storm 4-0 on Friday.

Ashlynn Knight finished with five goals, including both against Ursuline. Kendall Toliver, who recorded a hat trick against Burkburnett, and Jimena Rodriguez had four goals each over the weekend.

The Lady Raiders travel to Argyle on Tuesday and will also play in the Birdville Tournament this week.

LADY COYOTES UNDEFEATED IN ALEDO

ALEDO – The Wichita Falls High Lady Coyotes rolled to a 3-0 record at the Aledo Tournament, defeating Waxahachie, 1-0, on Thursday, Arlington Sam Houston, 4-1, on Friday and host Aledo, 1-0, on Saturday.

Alinessa Salinas had a prolific tournament, scoring four goals in the three matches, including the lone scores in the shutout victories against Waxahachie and Aledo. Malayasia Laque and Addi Botello also had a goal against Sam Houston.

Keeper Aidan Herrera had a standout match in goal against Aledo, registering nine saves.

The Lady Coyotes host Abilene Cooper at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Stadium.
