SOCCER ROUNDUP: Salinas hat trick keys Old High victory

WFHS GIRLS 3, SHERMAN 1

SHERMAN – Trailing at halftime, Wichita Falls High coach Robert Woodard challenged the Lady Coyotes to play with more fire when they emerged from the locker room.

The Lady Coyotes responded, scoring three goals in the second half for a 3-1 victory against Sherman on Tuesday.

Alinessa Salinas recorded the hat trick, scoring all three Old High goals. Claire Hood, Lizbeth Hernandez and Malaysia Larque had assists.

The Lady Coyotes held a distinct advantage in pressure with 23 shots, including 19 on goal, compared to two for Sherman.

RIDER GIRLS 3, MONTEREY 0

LUBBOCK – Aubrey Glidewell didn’t score in a match for the first time this season Tuesday, but it didn’t keep Rider from claiming a 3-0 victory against Lubbock Monterey at Lowrey Field. The Lady Raiders (9-0-1) remain undefeated on the season.

Kendall Toliver opened the scoring, throwing the ball into the net from the sideline. The ball was untouched until it went off the fingers of Monterey’s goaltenders. That 1-0 lead held up through halftime.

The Lady Raiders scored off another throw-in in the 56th minute with Katleynn Skipper putting back a rebound. Mia Gilmore capped the scoring with a header off the a Kaylee Marshall free kick in the 78th minute.

HIRSCHI BOYS 1, CARTER-RIVERSIDE 0

Hirschi defended its home turn at Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, claiming a 1-0 victory against Fort Worth Carter-Riverside.

Freshman Elias Barron scored the match’s lone goal, finishing an assist from Daniel Macias.
