SOCCER: San Angelo Central girls shut out Frenship in 2-6A opener

The San Angelo Central High School girls soccer team opened District 2-6A play with a 3-0 shutout against Frenship Tuesday night at Old Bobcat Stadium.

Central improved to 6-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in district.

Allysa Villareal, Ellie Barker and Carley Martinez each scored a goal, with assists by Abi Kalnbach, Martinez and Emilee Sikora.

Addie Harkleroad was in goal for the shutout.

"The back line of Marissa Atillano, Camille Holle, Sofia Meador-Safont and Yvanna Barajas did an exceptional job tonight in front of Addie," Central head coach Ben Henry said. "It was a well-played game against a quality side. It was a great way to start district play. I'm very proud of all our girls."

Central travels to Odessa High on Friday. That match starts at 5:30 p.m. at Ratliff Stadium.

Frenship 3, San Angelo Central boys 0

The San Angelo Central Bobcats opened District 2-6A action with a loss to the Tigers at Old Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats battled to a scoreless first half before giving up three second-half goals.

Central dropped to 1-5-3 overall and 0-1 in district.

Central will look to get back on track on the road against Odessa High on Friday.

Lake View girls 12, Andrews 0

The Lake View Maidens lit up the scoreboard in a nondistrict match at Lake View Stadium.

Juniors Jazmyne Flores, Ally Flores and Janessa Rocha scored goals for the Maidens, along with sophomore Alyssa Delacruz and freshmen Jaylen Cuellar, Brianna Lopez and Jazzy Palmer.

Maidens junior Faith Miller had three assists.

Sophomore Jennifer Mata and freshman Zoe Espinosa split time in goal.

"Again, the Maidens came out and collectively won the match as a team," Lake View head coach Henry Gonzales said after his team improved to 3-3-1. "I am so proud of how they worked together for this win."

Lake View will host Brownwood in another nondistrict match at 6 p.m. Friday at San Angelo Stadium.
