New social district coming to Salisbury July 1

A social district is coming to Salisbury on July 1.

At the Downtown Salisbury Social District (DSSD), people will be able to carry alcoholic beverages in open containers in a designated area downtown.

Visitors can buy these drinks in a DSSD cup from participating businesses with a “Downtown Salisbury Social District” sticker displayed.

In the coming days, officials will start putting signs up to establish the boundaries of the social district. Salisbury officials will have a map of the area on the city’s website, which can also be accessed via QR code on the posted signs.

Salisbury said at Bell Tower Green Park, there are certain times when people cannot publicly drink alcohol. Officials also said there are exceptions to drinking in other areas of the social district; for example, people can’t buy or sell alcohol at public street festivals or at events hosted by the City of Salisbury.

People will be able to visit the district seven days a week from noon to midnight. To learn more, click here.
