Social media posts show damage to cars, houses from severe hail storm in Austin area

Destructive thunderstorms moved through Central Texas late Sunday evening and early Monday morning, pelting the area with large hail and causing untold damage to vehicles and buildings.

Photos and videos posted to X, formerly Twitter, document the results of golf- to baseball-sized hail in the area. Here's what was shared:

State Representative Caroline Harris, R-Round Rock, posted several videos to her account from under an Interstate 35 overpass.

One of her videos shows the damage done to Kia of Round Rock. Several cars appear to have sustained busted windshields and significant dents.

X user @Nowakian posted videos of hail measuring around 2 ½ inches in diameter in Austin. Photos posted by several other users show hail as large as their palms.

Hail causing damages to windows

The extent of the damage to the area is yet to be known. @jmrphy on X posted a video of busted windows in his home office and bedroom due to the storm in Austin.

Austin area sees isolated power outages

Late Sunday night, Round Rock police posted to X that they were working to respond to reports of significant property damage and isolated power outages.
