Multiple tornadoes touched down on both coasts of Florida early Thursday morning, with residents in at least three cities waking up to severe damage from the storms.

According to National Weather Service, at least two twisters struck the areas near Clearwater Beach and Crystal River. City and county officials have reported immense debris in streets and the Clearwater Beach Police Department shared a photo of a vehicle's windshield pierced by an object.

The Citrus County also experienced significant damage from a tornado that struck the Crystal River. The Citrus County School District announced that they have canceled Thursday's classes to allow for cleanup of the area.

On the opposite side of the state, a EF2 tornado struck the Palm Coast region, especially in Flagler County in the Indian Trails B-section along Barrington Drive.

City officials said there are multiple downed trees and power lines, as well as damage to the properties. The neighborhood is closed off to all traffic.

Are there still risks for tornados today in these parts of Florida?

Not anymore. Most of the Central Florida region was under a tornado watch until 3 p.m.

Northern and central parts of Florida have seen severe storms throughout the first half of today, according to the Weather Channel reports. However, there haven't been any further reports of isolated tornadoes.

How to stay safe during a tornado:

The CDC offers these tips when sheltering for a tornado:

  • Go to the basement or an inside room without windows on the lowest floor (bathroom, closet, center hallway).

  • If possible, avoid sheltering in any room with windows.

  • For added protection get under something sturdy (a heavy table or workbench). Cover your body with a blanket, sleeping bag or mattress. Protect your head with anything available.

  • Do not stay in a mobile home.
