A socially distant milestone birthday

Dennis Richmond's neighbors, armed with banners, musical instruments, and drinks, stood in their shared street and their front gardens to wish him a happy birthday.

"I still think you're all bonkers," Richmond told his laughing neighbours, raising a glass.

Social distancing has been introduced by many governments around the world.

It essentially means avoiding face-to-face contact as much as possible.

But for the newly turned 90-year old Richmond, there was a moment of levity to highlight his special day.

"The banners, the posters, the horrible singing. Rather good, yeah I enjoyed that," he said, smiling.
