Sod Poodles blanked by Missions at home

Though the Amarillo Sod Poodles have endured an up and down season, offense has never been an issue.

Until Thursday night at HODGETOWN Stadium.

The Sod Poodles were defeated by the San Antonio Missions 6-0, failing to produce a run for just the fourth time ever at HODGETOWN. All four shutouts have come this season and Amarillo is now 41-43 on the season.

One positive was the performance of Deyni Olivero on the mound.

With a 6.58 ERA, Olivero hasn't had the kind of season he'd hoped for. Though he picked up the loss on Thursday, he allowed just one earned run on four hits over six innings for the Soddies while striking out three and walking just one.

The game was tight until the eighth inning with the only score before then coming in the top of the first. Thomas Milone's RBI double scored Connor Hollis to make it 1-0 until the eighth. That was when the Missions all but ended the game as they put up five runs to take a 6-0 lead that Amarillo couldn't put a dent in.

The Sod Poodles managed six hits on the evening, including a 2-for-4 performance from Tristin English, who continued the torrid start to his Double-A career. The 25-year old infielder is batting .345 with an OPS of .991 since getting the call up from Single-A Hillsboro.
