The up-and-down week, and season, continued for the Amarillo Sod Poodles on Sunday. Fortunately, this time it was up.

After dropping back-to-back games by a score of 5-0 each night, Amarillo closed out its series against the NW Arkansas Naturals with a 6-2 win on Sunday to move to 8-7 overall on the year. The Soddies split the series with the Naturals a week after splitting with Corpus Christi.

The previous two games had largely been pitchers duals and the Amarillo offense had mostly been absent. The Soddies got their groove back on Sunday, however, and they got it back early. Jonathan Guzman singled in the top of the second to score A.J. Vukovich to end the three day scoring draught and Adrian Del Castillo scored on a passed ball right after that. Tim Tawa scored on an RBI ground out by Roby Enriquez to make it 3-0 Amarillo.

The game remained 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Naturals got one back, but Tawa returned the lead to three runs with an RBI double to score Vukovich in the top of the eighth. Juan Centeno followed that up with an RBI single to score Tawa and make it a 5-1 game. NW Arkansas put another run on the board in the bottom of the inning, but that was all they could do as Tristin English homered in the ninth and Amarillo got the win.

Deyni Olivero was solid in the start, giving up just the one run on six hits in 4.2 innings of work. Andrew Saalfrank got the win after striking out three and giving up two hits with no earned runs in two innings of work. Offensively, the day belonged to Centeno (2-for-4, one RBI) and Deyvison De Los Santos (2-for-5) as they put up four of the Sod Poodles' nine hits.

The Sod Poodles return to Hodgetown Ball Park for a six day series with Frisco beginning Tuesday.
