The Amarillo Sod Poodles made an impressive rally against the Corpus Christi Hooks on Friday night.

But, the Soddies fell behind by so much early that it was far too little, far too late.

Amarillo made it closer than it was for much of the game thanks to some clutch late-game hitting, but it wasn't enough as Corpus Christi took a 13-10 victory to even the series on the week at two games a piece. Amarillo is now 4-3 on the year overall.

It was all Hooks early on as Scott Schreiber doubled in the top of the first before C.J. Stubbs netted an RBI single in the second to make it a 2-0 game.

Yet, it was the third inning that really did the damage. Corpus Christi put seven runs on the board to take control in the third with a 9-0 advantage in the blink of an eye.

The Sod Poodles battled back, though.

Tim Tawa scored Caleb Roberts on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to get the Soddies on the board. Robby Enriquez sent Tawa home on an RBI single before Ryan Bliss continued his red-hot start to the season with a two-RBI single to cut the deficit to a manageable 9-4 after four complete.

Stubbs homered in the the fifth to return the Hooks' advantage to six runs, but Tawa answered in the bottom of the inning with a homer of his own to get back within five. Corpus Christi made it an eight-run advantage with three runs in the sixth inning.

Caleb Roberts doubled in the bottom of the seventh to score Jordan Lawlar before Deyvison De Los Santos doubled to close the Soddies scoring gap to 13-7. The bottom of the eighth saw Roberts score Bliss on an RBI single before a two-run homer by De Los Santos made it 13-10.

That was all Amarillo could muster as Corpus held on for the win.

Roberts led the way for the Sod Poodles with a 3-for-5 night, two RBI and three runs scored. Bliss, Deyvison De Los Santos, Tawa and Nick Dalesandro each had two hits. Luke Albright got the start on the mound and took the loss after giving up six earned runs on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings. Josh Green struck out three batters without allowing a baserunner in two innings of relief.

The Soddies and Hooks are slated to end the series with a 1:05 p.m. Sunday contest. For results, visit www.amarillo.com.
