An extended trailer for Sofía Vergara's upcoming drug cartel drama Griselda has been released.

The Netflix series sees the Modern Family star – who also serves as executive producer on the new show – wearing prosthetics to play Colombian drug trafficker Griselda Blanco Restrepo.

Known as the Black Widow and Cocaine Godmother, Blanco was at the helm of one of the most profitable cartels in history.

"Ms Blanco's operation has been efficient, deadly and incredibly successful," one of the prosecutors says in the new clip before a montage proceeds to show Griselda's highs and lows.

Soundtracked to a Spanish-language rendition of Blondie's hit 'Call Me', the trailer gives viewers a closer look into Griselda's ambitious enterprise as the queen pin leaves a long trail of enemies, and a few dead bodies, in her wake. Meanwhile, her plan to make a name for herself in a male-dominated criminal environment attracts rivalries and vendettas.

Co-created by Narcos' Doug Miro with Eric Newman, Carlo Bernard and
Ingrid Escajeda, the six-part miniseries will debut on the streaming platform in the new year. Behind the camera for the entire series is filmmaker Andrés Baiz, known for having directed episodes of Narcos, Narcos: Mexico and The Sandman.
