Softball: Our 2022 all-state team
Nov. 22—The Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont areas had 25 players make the Colorado High School Activities Association's all-state teams this fall.
Senior Jaiselyn Hernandez was named first team in Class 5A for Erie after hitting .519 with 22 RBIs. She was vital for the Tigers in the postseason, driving in five runs to help lead them into the semifinals.
Junior Gracie Sackett, named the Longmont Times-Call player of the year, was named to the second team after going 15-1 with a 0.94 ERA over 104 innings pitched for the Tigers. Broomfield's senior ace Breanna Fiala also made the second team after going 12-6 with a 2.65 ERA over 103 frames, leading the Eagles to the state postseason.
In 4A, Holy Family's Isabella Arroyo — the Daily Camera player of the year a year after she received the same award for BoCoPreps.com — was named first team after going 12-2 in the circle while driving in 20 from the plate. The Tigers reached the finals before falling to Lutheran.
Frederick's Makenzie Sais and Haley Howell also made first team after leading the Golden Eagles to the semifinals. Sais was second in the nation (per MaxPreps) with 62 stolen bases, batting .600. Howell went 16-4 from the circle and drove in 38 runs from the plate.
Mead's Joslynn Veltien also made first team in 4A, going 17-8 with a 2.26 ERA over 157 2/3 innings. She was instrumental in the Mavericks' run to the state semifinals.
In 3A, Lyons junior Ceci Chiaravalle was named first team after she finished second in the state with 263 strikeouts in 124 1/3 innings. Lutheran's Hailey Maestretti, who pitched 24 more innings, was first with 271.
Jefferson Academy's Kylie Fullerton made the second team and finished with the state's best batting average at .782. She drove in 50.
In 5A's honorable mentions, Broomfield's Caylie Eiguren hit .476 with 32 RBIs. Erie's Addie Osborne hit seven home runs and batted .418 with 34 RBIs. Legacy's Kate Walker hit .518 with 27 RBIs. Monarch's Keara Cunningham hit .471 with 23 RBIs and five homers.
In 4A's honorable mentions, Holy Family had four more players recognized. Kaylee McDonald hit .541 with 25 RBIs, Makaila Moosbrugger hit .464 with 27, Danielle Duran drove in 20 runs and freshman Emmaline Humphreys went 10-3 in the circle with a 1.42 ERA.
Mead had two more — Katelyn Wiescamp drove in 30 with a .505 batting average and defensive catcher Jorja Haskin hit .323. Frederick's Hailey Simmons hit .426 with 22 runs driven in. Niwot's Zoie Chociej hit .645 with six homers and 33 RBIs. And Boulder's Sophia Pereira hit .479 with 31 RBIs and went 8-5 in the circle.
In 3A's honorable mentions, Peak to Peak had two more make the list after the Pumas reached the state quarterfinals. Alena Carpenter hit .452 with 35 RBIs. Maggie Wallis hit .532.
Jefferson Academy's Samantha Duncan hit .477.
