Softball: Astoria scores easy wins

Mar. 26—After an 0-2 start to the season, the Astoria softball team has now won four in a row, outscoring the competition 54-3 in four games over seven days.

Following a 15-0 home victory over Milwaukie on March 21, the Lady Fish pounded out wins over Hidden Valley (14-3) and Cottage Grove (15-0) Thursday and Friday in the Hidden Valley Spring Break tournament.

In Friday's four-inning win over Cottage Grove, Astoria pitcher Maddie Wilkin tossed her second no-hitter of the season, giving up just one walk with 10 strikeouts.

Astoria led 5-0 after three innings, then scored 10 in the fourth to end the game. Nayomi Holmstedt was 4-four-4 and scored four runs, while the Lady Fish had nine hits and drew 10 walks. Wilkin drove in four runs.

Thursday's victory over Hidden Valley took just three innings, with Astoria racking up 14 runs on eight hits. Avery Biederman had two doubles.
