Softball: Eleven candidates up for Varsity 845 player of week honors
Eleven candidates are up for Varsity 845 softball player of the week honors for May 9-15.
Candidates are drawn from results reported to Varsity 845. Barring extraordinary circumstances, only one player per school is selected in a given week.
The online voting is hosted at RecordOnline.com/sports. Vote as often as you like.
Previous winners this season are not eligible until the postseason begins – they include Monroe-Woodbury’s Brianna Roberts and Kelsey O’Brien, Marlboro’s Ava DelSalto and Warwick’s Eva Garofalo.
The Varsity 845 softball player of the week nominations are posted on Mondays, with online voting until early Wednesday afternoon.

The candidates

Jenna Carmody, Tri-Valley
How about winning two games in the circle on the same day? Carmody beat Chapel Field, 7-6 and 12-9, on Tuesday. She had 17 total strikeouts.
Gianna Catletti, Minisink Valley
Two singles, a triple, three runs and three RBI helped power the Warriors past Monticello 20-0 on Monday. A day later, she tossed a one-hitter as Minisink beat Port Jervis 8-1. Then she tossed a perfect game, fanning 10 in a 2-0 win over Beacon on Thursday.
Carly Correa, Marlboro
She had a double, home run, scored twice and drove in five runs as the Dukes blanked Highland 5-0 on Monday.
Lily Gonzalez, Eldred
She drove in nine runs on a single and three doubles as the Yellow Jackets beat Fallsburg, 23-8, in a twinbill opener on Tuesday.
Piper Kaylor, Burke Catholic
Kaylor drove in seven runs on two singles, a double and homer, and fanned six batters, as Burke blanked Fallsburg 30-0 on Thursday. Kaylor struck out 15 in a 5-1 loss to O’Neill on Saturday.
Hannah Lutz, Ellenville
Two singles were nice; a grand slam was better. Still, the Blue Devils fell to Spackenkill, 12-7, on Tuesday.
Paige Niles, Chester
Five RBI came as a result of two singles and a double, powering the Hambletonians past Sullivan West, 17-1, on Tuesday. A day later, Niles drove in three runs on two singles and two doubles in a 21-3 win over Fallsburg.
Lauren Serrao, Valley Central
Four singles led to seven RBIs as the Vikings blanked Newburgh, 15-0, on Tuesday.
Olivia Shippee, Monroe-Woodbury
She had two singles, a home run, scored twice and drove in four runs to lead the Crusaders past Kingston 15-1 on Monday.
Kailey Stolowski, Seward
She allowed one hit and fanned 13 as the Spartans blanked Livingston Manor 14-0 on Tuesday. A day later, Stolowski fanned 15 Eldred batters in a 10-4 victory, tossing in two singles and two RBI to boot. On Thursday she fanned nine and added two hits an two RBI in a 9-5 win over Chester.
Riley Van Pelt, O’Neill
She scored four runs and drove in five on a single, double and grand slam as the Raiders beat Liberty, 15-5, on Thursday.
