Softball: Moulton sister act a big hit for Stafford

May 16—The Stafford High softball team had the final say in a see-saw game.

Jaelyn Moulton's triple plated her twin sister Andrea with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Bulldogs rallied to defeat visiting Somers 8-7 in an NCCC game Monday.

Stafford (7-8) trailed 3-0 and took leads of 4-3, 5-4, and 6-4. Somers (10-9) trailed by one after six innings.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Grace Chagnon doubled and scored on Hailey Schafer's triple to tie it. Schafer came home on Aubrie Kobjak's grounder to the mound to make it 7-6.

After Abi Julian was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double to open the bottom of the seventh, Ashley Toney singled to center field and an outfield error allowed her to come all the way around to score the tying run. Andrea Moulton then reached on an infield error to set the stage for her twin Jaelyn.

Jaelyn Moulton missed the cycle by a double as she also homered and singled. Julian and Andrea Moulton had two hits each. Sofia Frassinelli was the winning pitcher with a seven-hitter. She walked six and struck out 10.
