SOFTBALL: Norwalk rallies for road win at Vermilion

Apr. 15—VERMILION — The Norwalk softball team trailed by a run in the top of the sixth inning when an error scored two runs to put it on top for a 6-4 come-from-behind win over host Vermilion on Wednesday in an SBC Lake Division matchup.

With the win, the Truckers improved to 4-9 overall and 3-2 in the Lake. After an 0-7 start, Norwalk has won four of its last six games, with both losses coming by one run in a pair of non-league games.

Hayleigh Mills finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs for Norwalk, while Sophia Bores was 2 for 4 and scored twice. Morgan Leber added a hit with two RBIs, and McKenna Ames had a double and an RBI.

Haley Gockstetter had a strong performance in the circle for Norwalk. She allowed four runs (two earned) on nine hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk over the seven innings.

OAK HARBOR — The host Rockets scored early and often in Wednesday's SBC Bay Division win over the Crimson Flashes.

Dakota Cok was 2 for 2 and scored a run, while Kalli Sowers and Kaylee Davis each singled and had an RBI for Willard (5-9, 1-3). Ellen Fox and Macey Robinson added singles for the Flashes.

CASTALIA — The Chargers fell to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the SBC Bay after the Polar Bears got a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie on Wednesday.

Kira Appeman hit a three-run triple in the top of the third inning for Edison's lone offense. She took the loss for the Chargers in the circle, allowing four earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk in six innings.

Kayla Mancuso added two singles for Edison, while Deana Blatnik and Olivia Vitaz also each had a base hit.

MONROEVILLE — The Eagles improved to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the Firelands Conference with Wednesday's win over the visiting Wildcats.

Lydia Landoll was 3 for 3 with a run scored, while Callie Rosser doubled and had an RBI for the Eagles. Sydney Meisler and Adelynn Kradlak each added singles.

In the circle, Payton Scheid went all seven innings for Monroeville. She allowed one run on three hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks.

Emilee Rowland took the loss for New London, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with one strikeout and one walk. She tripled and scored the lone run for the 'Cats.

NORWALK — The Lady Flyers fell to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in the FC with Wednesday's loss to the Cougars.

Klaire Hickey, Mara Lesch, Elena Penner and Josalyn Vazquez each singled for St. Paul. Amelia Rospert went all seven innings. She allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

COLLINS — The Roughriders were outscored by eight runs over the first three innings of Wednesday's FC loss to the Big Red (8-3, 2-2).

Sydnie Prince had a double and an RBI for the 'Riders (0-9, 0-4), while Jocelyn Charville, Ellie Blankenship and Lacey Greszler each singled.

Mackenzie Back went all five innings for the Big Red, allowing two unearned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. Halli Hall added a double and two RBIs.
