Softball roundup: LQPV locks up the Camden (again) with sweep over D-B

May 20—DAWSON — The Camden Conference softball title stays at Lac qui Parle Valley.

The Eagles secured their second straight conference championship after getting a sweep over Dawson-Boyd on Thursday.

LQPV won 5-0 in Game 1, then followed up with a 5-1 Game 2 victory.

With the sweep, the Eagles finish at 15-2 in the Camden (17-2 overall). Russell-Tyler-Ruthton finishes in second with a 14-3 conference record.

In both games, Eagles pitcher Rylee Sawatzky overwhelmed the Blackjack hitters. The senior right-hander threw all 14 innings, holding D-B to three hits and one walk. She had 26 combined strikeouts — 13 in each game.

In the opener, Tayler Kittelson led LQPV's offense, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a stolen base. Isabel Gerdes was also 2-for-4 with a double. Taylor Shelstad scored twice and stole two bases, finishing 1-for-3.

The Blackjacks' lone hit in Game 1 belonged to Madison Hansen. She finished 1-for-3. Alivia Haas threw all seven innings, striking out three in the loss.

Hits came at a premium for both teams in the night cap, with both D-B and LQPV having two hits apiece. But, the Eagles were able to capitalize on three Blackjack errors.

Shelstad went 1-for-2 with two runs and three stolen bases in Game 2. Rylee Lund had LQPV's other hit, going 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Tori Bungarden and Isabel Gerdes also scored runs in the Game 2 win.

Kate Dahl and Taylen Jorgenson were both 1-for-3 for D-B. Jorgenson hit for a double while Dahl scored the team's lone run in the fifth inning. In the circle, Allison Estling tallied seven strikeouts over six innings while being hit with the loss.

D-B has one more regular-season game, hosting Ortonville at 5 p.m. Friday.

Both LQPV and D-B are in the Section 3A tournament. Seeds are yet to be announced. The first and second rounds begin on Tuesday.
