Softball: Vote now for lohud Player of the Week (March 24-April 2)

After an exciting opening-season stretch of high school softball it's time to crown the lohud Player of the Week.

Meet this week's eight finalists that had big weeks on the softball field. The players' credentials are listed above the fan poll — which will be live until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will be announced on lohud social media accounts on Tuesday night.

Scoreboard: Scores, results, and more from the opening stretch of the high school softball season

Katie Blanch, Rye Neck

The senior ace had a pair of dominant all-around performances to start the year. In a season-opening shutout win over Mamaroneck, she tossed a one-hitter and struck out 12 batters. She also went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Then, against Dobbs Ferry, she tossed another one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts. She also went 4-for-4 with two home runs, including a grand slam, plus seven RBI.

Eva Destito, Yorktown

The Huskers' catcher got off to a strong start to the season. The Yorktown sophomore batted a combined 5-for-9, with a home run, five RBI, four runs scored and a walk.

Teagan Dwyer, Albertus Magnus

The Falcons' ace helped her team get off to a 2-0 start, tossing a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Valhalla. Then, she followed up with a 15-strikeout performance in an 8-1 win over Tuckahoe. Against the Tigers, she also went 4-for-5 with a double and a RBI.

Paige Johannsen, Hen Hud

She was an extra-base hit and RBI machine for the Sailors through their 3-0 start to the season. The Sailor senior batted .500, with two doubles, three triples and a grand slam, racking up 12 RBI to top off her big week.

Kiera Luckie, Pearl River

The junior ace made the most of the Pirates' lone game in a rain-filled stretch. She had an all-around day against Suffern, pitching a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts. Offensively, she went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

Chloe Matt, North Salem

The Tigers' sophomore threw a combined 17 strikeouts, with three earned runs allowed across two complete-game outings to start the season.

Sofia Rodrigues, Fox Lane

The Foxes' eighth-grade pitcher had a strong debut in her team's lone game of the week. She pitched a three-hit shutout, while striking out 13 batters in a win over John Jay-Cross River.

Callie Sniffen, Putnam Valley/Haldane

She made her varsity debut in style, hitting for the cycle in the Tigers' season opener. The Putnam Valley/Haldane sophomore helped the Tigers to a 2-0 start, and went a combined 6-for-9 with a double, triple, two home runs, six RBI, seven runs scored and two walks.
