Sol y Canto and Fabiola Méndez to perform at the Narrows Center for the Arts

FALL RIVER — Latinx Music Ambassadors Sol y Canto will be joined by virtuoso Puerto Rican cuatro player and singer Fabiola Méndez and her trio at the Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., on Saturday, March 11.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. and doors at 7. Tickets are $28 in advance and $30 the day of the show.

Sol y Canto is the award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist and composer Brian Amador. Featuring Rosi’s crystalline voice and Brian’s lush Spanish guitar and inventive compositions, Sol y Canto’s original songs are socially conscious and hopeful, set in a framework of varied musical styles with surprising twists.

Described by the Boston Globe as “sublime ambassadors of Latin music,” and winners of three Boston Music Awards, they translate Spanish lyrics poetically to make their music accessible to all.

With Brian’s commanding, intricate guitar playing, Rosi’s rhythmic drive on cajón and bongos, and liberal use of vocal improvisation and body percussion, the duo’s sound is lush.

At the Narrows, Rosi and Brian will be joined by Keala Kaumeheiwa on upright bass and Paul Lieberman on saxohpne and flute, as well as special guest Queralt Giralt from Barcelona on cello and voice, who will be joining Sol y Canto for the very first time.

Fabiola Méndez is a Puerto Rican cuatro player, educator, and composer whose music crosses freely over borders between jazz, Latin and Puerto Rican folk music.

Her musicality and original compositions take the listener on a journey through her identities and culture, while celebrating and exploring the versatility of the cuatro puertorriqueño. She performs nationally and internationally, and composes music for children's shows Alma's Way (PBS Kids) and Sesame Street's Mecha Builders (HBO Max).

She has received numerous awards, including the Quincy Jones Award for composition, WBUR's ARTery 25, the Brother Thomas Fellowship, Whippoorwill Arts Fellowship, and a motion from the Puerto Rican House of Representatives for her work and accomplishments as a cuatrista.
