New solar farm proposed for agriculture land in Dover Township on Harmony Grove Road

The Dover Township Zoning Hearing Board will hold a public hearing for a new solar farm application.

The request is being made by Solar Renewable Energy LLC, a solar company based in Mechanicsburg. The company is requesting permission to place a solar farm on 27 acres of land at 5370 Harmony Grove Road, which is zoned for the agriculture district.

The Dover Planning Commission approved the plan for the project at its Feb. 1 meeting. This is the second solar farm that has been proposed for Dover Township since December 2021.

The Enel Group met with the zoning board eight times before gaining approval for a 600-acre solar farm that will spread east of Route 74 in the area of Canal Road. The board allotted half of its yearly meetings in 2022 to the issue because of public controversy. All board members, except one, voted in favor of the solar farm. The lone dissenting voice was board member Robert Wright.

The meeting for the newly proposed solar farm will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15 in the Community Room of the Dover Township Community Building at 3700 Davidsburg Road.
