Soldier mom surprises daughter on her birthday after 6-month deployment

A metro Atlanta sixth grader got a birthday surprise in the middle of class on Tuesday afternoon.

Administrators at Russell Middle School in Barrow County say the young girl, who has not been identified, was sitting in Mr. Cosby’s class when her mother walked in.

Video of the surprise showed the the middle schooler recognize her mother and run to give her a tearful hug.

They say her mother had been deployed overseas for the last six months.

Staff Sergeant Nelson was able to make the journey back home to celebrate her daughter’s birthday.

She brought flowers and balloons to help celebrate.
