Bernie Mac made a name for himself in the ’90s during the Black comedy renaissance. He continued to dominate the entertainment industry throughout the early 2000s with his unforgettable roles in film and TV until his death in 2008. While most would declare Mac’s legacy as cemented, one Twitter user appeared to be unaware of the comedian’s talents. They tweeted their hot take about the comedian, and viewers were quick to shut it down, Hip Hop Wired reports.

“Show me proof Bernie Mac was actually funny. Pls. Cause y’all dragging it,” the user’s tweet read.

The tweet quickly went viral, catching heat from Bernie Mac fans.

Many shared clips of Bernie Mac’s stand-up, film and TV cameos and moments from his iconic sitcom, The Bernie Mac Show, to educate the misinformed tweeter. Others told them they were straight-up wrong.

“You going down in Black Twitter history for the WRONG reason sis,” one user commented.

“Ohh girl you should have done a dry run of this in the group chat first, they would have stopped you,” another advised.

Some viewers noted this was a unifying moment for Black Twitter users.

“This tweet unified every part of Black Twitter in time for Juneteenth,” one wrote.

“I hope you’re only seeking chaos w this one,” another added. “He was hard when people were soft gliding training wheels. The Mack man is revered, he told it real, Bernie was just getting his flowers before he passed.”

One user chose peace and tried to have their back amid the sea of attacks.

“Stop the quotes! Leave her alone!” someone replied.

After hundreds of comments dragging them, the anti-Mac user begged for forgiveness.

“Is putting me in a pack necessary family???????????????” they asked.

“If I say I was hacked will y’all forgive me?? Tryna see what my options are here,” they wrote, later writing the hashtag “#IfYouForgaveChrisBrownForgiveMeToo.”
