Somers' seniors step up in win over Bacon
May 9—The seniors stepped up for the Somers High boys lacrosse team Saturday.
Seniors Gavin Rauza, Brian McGowan, Cooper Barrett, and Ryan Simington combined for 12 goals as the Spartans defeated Bacon Academy 14-6 in a non-league game at Somers High.
Rauza finished with four goals for Somers (9-3). McGowan and Barrett netted hat tricks while Symington had two goals. Junior Trent Beggs and sophomore Ryan Birkenshaw rounded out the scoring. Greg Mendez played well defensively for the Spartans.
Gavin Emmons had three goals for Bacon Academy (5-4).
Girls
ELLINGTON 14, AVON 7. Anna Bocchino scored five goals as Ellington recorded a non-league home win Saturday.
Taylor Murphy and Kaitlyn Boone added hat tricks for the Knights (8-3), who led 7-2 at halftime. Katie Hurlburt, Shea Harnois, and Kelsey Harnois chipped in a goal each. Goalie Alison Kozik made 11 saves. Avon is 3-7.
Ellington hosts Somers Tuesday.
RHAM 13, WINDSOR 6. Twelve players hit the net for RHAM in a CCC Central win Friday night in Windsor.
Lauren Feige was the only multiple-goal scorer with two for the Raptors (3-8). Eva Morelli-Wolfe added a goal and two assists.
Taryn Brysgel and Love Lanzuella combined for six saves in the RHAM goal.
Emma Botterick had three goals and Lily Sargalski two for the Warriors (0-10).
RHAM is at Northwest Catholic Tuesday. Windsor visits Middletown today.
