New cakery coming to Somerset

Let them eat cake! Looks like there'll be a sweet new business mixing things up on County Street this spring. Soon you can have your cake or cupcake, and eat it too, as one local entrepreneur gears up to open her own cakery. Ashley Ratcliffe, owner of From Scratch Cakes, shared a Facebook post on March 20 about plans to open the specialty cake and cupcake shop's first official location at 108 County St. According to Ratcliffe, she expects to be up and running sometime in early April. Get ready for Foodchella

Grab a picnic blanket and bring the family — and an empty stomach — to Slades Ferry Park this May for an evening of fun, live music, good food, and local brews. The much-anticipated Somerset food festival returns with Foodchella 5: Beer + Wine - Spring Edition. Sponsored by Southcoast Open Air Market, Memphis Kelle Tap Truck, Ocean State Food Trucks and Somerset Federal Credit Union, the festival will descend on Slades Ferry Park on Saturday, May 13, from 3 to 9 p.m. Enjoy local flavors from a variety of food trucks and food tents, as well as local brews from the beer garden. All-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast

It is stacking up to be a beautiful Sunday Funday thanks to the Somerset Lions Club. On April 30, from 7 a.m. to noon., start your day off right with an all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast. Cost for adults is $10, children 12 and younger are $5. The annual fundraiser will be held at Church of Our Savior, 2112 County St., Somerset. Callout for Fall River recipes

There's a long list of iconic foods Fall River is known for, and that people travel far and wide to find — from the chow mein sandwich to chourico and chips to malassadas to meat pies. With this in mind, Angels Anonymous is calling on all the "Fall River kitchen wizards" to share their favorite Fall River recipes. "Fall River is known for its amazing variety of foods from many different cultures. Here's your chance to help others and share your favorite Fall River treats!" a post on the nonprofit's Facebook page reads. Recipes are being collected in order to put together a Fall River-themed cookbook. Proceeds from the sale of the books will benefit the Angels Anonymous food pantry.
