Somerset County top basketball, rifle, wrestling performers for Feb. 4-10

Athlete of the Week

Windber junior basketball player Harmony Jablon was selected Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week while Berlin Brothersvalley sophomore basketball player Craig Jarvis was voted Male Athlete of the Week for their efforts from Jan. 28 to Feb. 3.

Jablon scored with 15 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Ramblers to a victory over rival Portage.

Meanwhile, in two games, Jarvis combined for 40 points. He recorded 26 against Turkeyfoot.

Thursday

Boys basketball

Conemaugh Township 66, Blacklick Valley 43: In Davidsville, Jackson Byer recorded 24 points and eight rebounds as the Indians cruised past the Vikings.

John Updyke tallied 13 points and eight rebounds for Conemaugh Township while Michael Shonko added 11 points.

Berlin Brothersvalley 70, Meyersdale 28: In Meyersdale, Holby McClucas and Pace Prosser each dropped 21 points as the Mountaineers mauled the Red Raiders.

Evan Brenneman scored nine points for Meyersdale.

Salisbury-Elk Lick 42, Rockwood 40: Drake Sellers scored 13 points as the Elks edged the Rockets.

Kobe Broad added 10 points for Salisbury.

Will Latuch tallied a game-high 16 points for Rockwood while Josh Wagner chipped in 10 points.

Windber 78, Turkeyfoot 26: In Windber, Keith Charney recorded 22 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and five assists to pace the Ramblers in a victory over the Rams.

Caden Dusack scored 17 points for Windber. Aiden Gray tallied 11 points, six steals and five assists while Blake Klosky contributed 11 points and six rebounds.

Kameron Kemp led Turkeyfoot with 12 points.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 53, Ferndale 41: In Cairnbrook, Braden Adams netted 17 points as the Vikings downed the Yellow Jackets.

Christian Musser scored 16 points for Shanksville while Logan McCall added 10.

Portage 81, North Star 48: In Portage, Kaden Claar and Mason Kargo each scored 17 points to power the Mustangs past the Cougars.

Ethan Smith produced 16 points for North Star while CJ Biery chipped in 14.

Greater Johnstown 93, Somerset 66: In Johnstown, Nyerre Collins scored 31 points to lead the Trojans in a rout of the Golden Eagles.

Aiden VanLenten netted 17 points for Somerset. Caleb Platt tallied 13 points while Eli Mumau added 12.

Girls basketball

Somerset 49, Greater Johnstown 37: In Somerset, Gracie Bowers tallied 12 points as the Golden Eagles topped the Trojans.

Bella Baumgardner scored nine points for Somerset.

Jenny Countryman scored 12 points for Berlin.

Wednesday

Boys basketball

Turkeyfoot 86, Hancock (Md.) 60: Kameron Kemp produced 38 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and six assists as the Rams clobbered the Panthers.

Chris Kozlowski had 11 points and nine rebounds for Turkeyfoot while Zach Ryan delivered nine blocks.

Girls basketball

Windber 43, Juniata Valley 37: Gina Gaye scored 15 points and surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career as the Ramblers bested the Hornets.

Mariah Andrews recorded nine points and eight rebounds for Windber while Rylee Ott chipped in eight points and nine boards.

Conemaugh Township 57, Blacklick Valley 50: In Davidsville, Mya Poznanski recorded a game-high 24 points to guide the Indians past the Vikings.

Emilee Roman had 13 points and eight rebounds for Conemaugh Township while Mya Nanna added 11 points and eight rebounds. Maeve Cullen tallied seven rebounds and five assists.

Berlin Brothersvalley 66, Meyersdale 39: In Meyersdale, Gracie Sechler dropped 21 points to propel the Mountaineers past the Red Raiders.

Jenny Countryman added 15 points for Berlin.

Zoe Hetz netted 12 points for Meyersdale.

Portage 54, North Star 14: In Portage, Ari Wozniak scored 16 points to lead the Mustangs past the Cougars.

Sydni Sossong tallied 10 points for Portage.

Jovi Jeske scored five points for North Star.

Rockwood 54, Bishop Walsh 19: Kaitlyn Pletcher and Mollie Wheatley each scored 11 points as the Rockets cruised to a non-conference victory.

Wheatley also grabbed six rebounds. Carissa Pletcher provided nine points.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 47, Shade 20: In Shanksville, Josie Snyder tallied 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Vikings tamed the Panthers.

Rylee Snyder had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds to go along with five steals for Shanksville. Liz Salsgiver contributed 10 points.

Jenna Muha led Shade with 18 points.

Central 59, Somerset 35: The Golden Eagles suffered a setback on the road to the Dragons.

Gracie Bowers scored 12 points for Somerset.

Rifle

Rockwood 1,222, Berlin Brothersvalley 1,184: Kelly Hearn shot a 264 to lead the Rockets past the Mountaineers.

Dustin Dran (247), Alyssa Hunt (242), Noah Hunt (241) and Kaitlyn King (228) rounded out the top five for Rockwood.

No Berlin individual scores were provided.

Tuesday

Boys basketball

Shanksville-Stonycreek 63, Meyersdale 36: Braden Adams scored 23 points to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau as the Vikings bested the Red Raiders.

Adams, a Shade student who competes in a co-op with Shanksville, also tallied 14 rebounds and five steals. Christian Musser contributed 17 points, six assists and five steals while Chris McCorkle added 14 points.

Evan Brenneman led Meyersdale with 11 points.

Conemaugh Township 64, Portage 60 (OT): Jackson Byer poured in 26 points to hand the Mustangs their first loss of the season.

Johnny Updyke scored 18 points for Conemaugh Township while Ethan Black added 10.

Kaden Claar recorded a game-high 33 points for Portage.

Berlin Brothersvalley 65, Salisbury-Elk Lick 20: Pace Prosser dropped in 26 points as the Mountaineers routed the Elks.

Caleb Rohrs scored 14 points for Berlin.

Daulton Sellers led Salisbury with eight points.

Windber 73, North Star 47: In Windber, Keith Charney recorded 19 points, six assists and five rebounds as the Ramblers clobbered the Cougars.

John Shuster scored 12 points for Windber while Aiden Gray added 10.

CJ Biery, Mitchel Pristas and Brock Weimer each had 10 points for North Star.

Huntingdon Christian Academy 63, Johnstown Christian 58: The Bluejays suffered a narrow setback at home.

Dionte Coleman led Johnstown Christian with 13 points while Jeremiah Taylor netted 12.

Girls basketball

Westmont Hilltop 51, Somerset 21: The Golden Eagles were downed by the Hilltoppers.

Gracie Bowers scored six points for Somerset. Shandi Walker pulled down eight rebounds.

Rifle

Berlin Brothersvalley 1,182, Salisbury-Elk Lick 873: Dalton Maust shot a 256 as the Mountaineers bested the Elks.

Hannah Miller (241) and Grant Horner (231) rounded out the top three for Berlin. Jacob Pelar shot a personal best 229.

Nolan Easton (personal best 236), Lilly Shank (224) and Aiden Brant (personal best 213) paced Salisbury.

Wrestling

Somerset 42, Central 30: The Golden Eagles bested the Dragons on the road. Somerset tallied all of its points via forfeit.

Portage 94, Meyersdale 33: In Meyersdale, Kaden Claar poured in 25 points as the Mustangs routed the Red Raiders.

Evan Brenneman scored 16 points for Meyersdale.

Central 71, Somerset 33: In Somerset, Eli Lingenfelter scored 22 points to send the Dragons past the Golden Eagles.

Eli Mumau led Somerset with 14 points.

Ferndale 52, Salisbury-Elk Lick 50: In Salisbury, Bruce Moore tallied 25 points as the Yellow Jackets edged the Elks.

Daulton Sellers scored a game-high 29 points for Salisbury.

Johnstown Christian 57, Calvary Christian 49: In Hollsopple, Dionte Coleman dropped 24 points to guide the Bluejays to a victory.

Girls basketball

Johnstown Christian 61, Calvary Christian 23: In Hollsopple, Unity Miller scored 17 points to propel the Bluejays to a victory.

Sarah Huston tallied 13 points and seven steals for Johnstown Christian. Kasmira Mack grabbed 14 rebounds while Ellie Speigle added 10 points.

Portage 61, Conemaugh Township 25: In Portage, Ari Wozniak netted 12 points as the Mustangs downed the Indians.

Cami Burkett and Brooke Bednarski each had 11 points for Portage.

Mya Poznanski scored 10 points for Conemaugh Township.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 55, Meyersdale 26: In Shanksville, Josie Snyder recorded 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists as the Vikings bested the Red Raiders.

Rylee Snyder contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds for Shanksville while Liz Salsgiver netted 10 points.

Morgan Walters and Izabella Donaldson combined for 14 points for Meyersdale.

Windber 55, North Star 21: In Windber, Gina Gaye dropped 18 points to lead the Ramblers past the Cougars.

Rylee Ott recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for Windber while Mariah Andrews chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.

Abby Barnick led North Star with 12 points.

Rifle

Conemaugh Township 1,350, Shanksville-Stonycreek 904, Turkeyfoot 665: Ruby Korenoski shot a 286 to lead the Indians past the Vikings and Rams.

Noah Lehman (274), Sierra LaPorta (267), Lydia Boring (262), Ian Tomlinson (261), Gabi Klingenberg (261) rounded out the top shooters for Conemaugh Township.

Emily Daniels shot a 267 for Shanksville.

Robbie Tuskey fired a 202 for Turkeyfoot.

Boys basketball

Shanksville-Stonycreek 66, Salisbury-Elk Lick 35: Braden Adams recorded a triple-double with 35 points, 12 steals and 11 rebounds as the Vikings upended the Elks.

Chris McCorkle scored 12 points for Shanksville while Logan McCall finished with 11.

Daulton Sellers paced Salisbury with 16 points.

Glendale 41, Johnstown Christian 33: The Bluejays fell on the road to the Vikings.

Dionte Coleman tallied a game-high 22 points for Johnstown Christian.

Girls basketball

Shade 66, Meyersdale 43: Junior Jenna Muha went off for 48 points, breaking the Shade single-game scoring record, as the Panthers downed the Red Raiders.

The previous mark was held by Michelle Chelednik, who tallied 47 points in the 1987-88 season.

Muha also grabbed 20 rebounds. Hailee Chapman had six rebounds and eight assists.

Marci Dupre led Meyersdale with 10 points.

Windber 35, Shanksville-Stonycreek 25: In Shanksville, Mariah Andrews recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Ramblers downed the Vikings.

Gina Gaye scored 10 points for Windber.

Josie Snyder netted 14 points for Shanksville.

Glendale 61, Johnstown Christian 31: The Bluejays dropped a non-conference contest to the Vikings.

Unity Miller scored a game-high 24 points for Johnstown Christian.

Wrestling

District 5 Class AA Team Tournament

Finals

Chestnut Ridge 70, North Star 3: The top-seeded Lions rolled to their 10th straight D5 team championship with a romp of the Cougars.

Tuker Turko tallied the lone points for North Star with a 7-2 decision.

Semifinals

Chestnut Ridge 62, Somerset 3: The Lions opened their day with a commanding victory over the No. 4 seeded Golden Eagles.

Zane Hagans won by a 6-4 decision for the lone points for Somerset.

The Golden Eagles bested Northern Bedford 42-36 in the first round.

North Star 45, Berlin Brothersvalley 30: The No. 3 seeded Cougars, which beat Tussey Mountain in the first round, upset the No. 2 Mountaineers to earn a berth in the finals.

Braden Livingston won by decision for North Star. Timmy Tretter, Shane Nichols and Cayden Turner picked up falls.

Hunter Cornell and Grant Mathias each won by fall for Berlin.
