Somerset County top basketball, wrestling, rifle performers: Jan. 14-20

Athlete of the Week

Somerset junior basketball player Mia Rosman was voted the Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week while Windber senior basketball player Aiden Gray was selected Male Athlete of the Week for their performances from Jan. 7-13.

In two games, Rosman tallied 27 points, including five 3-pointers and 15 points against Chestnut Ridge on Jan. 7.

Meanwhile, in three games, Gray combined for 33 points, including 15 in a setback to Portage.

Thursday

Girls basketball

Conemaugh Township 47, North Star 33: In Davidsville, Maeve Cullen netted 13 points as the Indians tamed the Cougars.

Mya Poznanski recorded 10 points for Conemaugh Township. Ava Byer pulled down seven rebounds. Mya Nanna and Ashlyn Fetterman combined for 12 rebounds.

Abby Barnick paced North Star with 15 points while Cenley Miller added 12 points.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 47, Bishop Guilfoyle 35 (OT): In Shanksville, Josie Snyder poured in 21 points, grabbed 14 boards and swiped six steals to lead the Vikings past the Marauders in non-conference action.

Shanksville outscored Bishop Guilfoyle 12-0 in overtime.

Rylee Snyder contributed 13 points and six rebounds for Shanksville.

Leah Homan scored 13 points for Bishop Guilfoyle.

Berlin Brothersvalley 62, Rockwood 38: In Rockwood, Ashley Brant scored a game-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers as the Mountaineers grounded the Rockets.

Gracie Sechler scored 15 points for Berlin.

Kaitlyn Pletcher led Rockwood with 12 points.

Windber 56, Ferndale 16: In Windber, Gina Gaye dropped 22 points to lead the Ramblers in a rout of the Yellow Jackets.

Rylee Ott scored nine points for Windber. Mariah Andrews recorded eight points and six rebounds.

Rifle

Bishop Carroll 1,288, Berlin Brothersvalley 1,134: The Mountaineers fell at home to the Huskies.

Hannah Miller led Berlin with a 253. Lucas Reiber shot a personal best 210.

Wrestling

Forest Hills 55, Somerset 7: In Somerset, the Golden Eagles suffered a lopsided loss to the Rangers.

Ethan Hemminger picked up a 6-4 decision for Somerset while Rowan Holmes won by major decision, 9-0.

United 53, Conemaugh Township 12: In Armagh, the Indians dropped a match to the Lions.

Austin Blackner and Ryan Thomas each picked up a fall for Conemaugh Township.

Boys basketball

Salisbury-Elk Lick 57, Rockwood 50 (OT): In Salisbury, Daulton Sellers went off for 42 points as the Elks edged the Rockets.

Aidan Ream scored 15 points for Rockwood. Will Latuch contributed 12 points while Josiah Rock tallied 11 points.

Somerset 65, Forest Hills 60: In Somerset, Aiden VanLenten dropped 34 points to guide the Golden Eagles past the Rangers.

Eli Mumau scored 14 points for Somerset. Caleb Platt chipped in 10 points.

Dylan Pasquerilla paced Forest Hills with 20 points.

Windber 69, Tyrone 62: In Windber, John Shuster poured in a game-high 21 points as the Ramblers edged the Golden Eagles in non-conference action.

Keith Charney recorded 16 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for Windber. Caden Dusack had 16 points.

Portage 81, North Star 45: In Boswell, Mason Kargo netted a game-high 20 points to lead the Mustangs past the Cougars.

Kaden Claar scored 17 points for Portage. Trae Kargo and Andrew Miko each had 12 points.

Brady Weimer tallied 11 points for North Star while CJ Biery contributed 10 points.

Conemaugh Township 59, Blacklick Valley 30: In Nanty Glo, Tanner Shirley netted 19 points as the Indians bested the Vikings.

Jackson Byer scored 15 points for Conemaugh Township while John Updyke tallied 10.

Cody Williams paced Blacklick Valley with 11 points.

Girls basketball

Portage 44, North Star 11: In Boswell, Sydni Sossong netted 14 points to lead the Mustangs in a rout of the Cougars.

Abby Barnick scored five points for North Star.

Rifle

North Star 1,367, Somerset 1,260: In Jerome, the Cougars improved to 6-1 with a victory over the Golden Eagles.

Elissa Barron (286), Nicole Rininger (284), Zach Tedrow (personal best 279), Hunter Snoeberger (261) and Aidan Barnick (257) led North Star.

Matt Shaffer (personal best 269), Maryssa Nicklow (264), Garrett Wagner (personal best 257), Colton Walker (236), Sam Acey (234) paced Somerset.

Portage 1,307, Rockwood 1,242: The Rockets fell at home to the Mustangs.

Kelly Hearn (268) and Noah Hunt (238) each shot a personal best for Rockwood. Alyssa Hunt (248), Evan May (248) and Kaitlyn King (240) rounded out the top five for the Rockets.

Wrestling

North Star 52, Meyersdale 16: The Cougars picked up a victory on the road over the Red Raiders.

Zane Paxton, Aiden Wojnarowski, Braden Livingston and Cameron Snoeberger picked up falls for North Star.

Zachary Summy earned a fall for Meyersdale. Trevor Donaldson won by major decision 16-5.

Johnstown Christian 56, Calvary Christian Academy 35: In Hollsopple, Dionte Coleman dropped a team-high 20 points to lead the Bluejays to a victory.

Conemaugh Township 58, Ferndale 24: In Johnstown, Jackson Byer poured in 28 points to go along with 10 rebounds as the Indians routed the Yellow Jackets.

Tanner Shirley and John Updyke combined for 16 points for Conemaugh Township.

Berlin Brothersvalley 59, Woodland Hills 58: In Chambersburg, the Mountaineers won a thriller at the Hoops for Harmony Stand Against Racism showcase.

Pace Prosser dropped 28 points for Berlin. Craig Jarvis chipped in 14 points.

Penns Manor 92, Salisbury-Elk Lick 36: In Salisbury, Grant Grimaldi amassed 45 points to send the Comets past the Elks.

Daulton Sellers scored 14 points for Salisbury.

Blair County Christian 44, Johnstown Christian 40: In Hollsopple, the Bluejays suffered a narrow setback to the Bobcats.

Dionte Coleman scored 21 points for Johnstown Christian while Michael Taylor added 10.

Girls basketball

Johnstown Christian 47, Blair County Christian 26: In Hollsopple, Unity Miller recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bluejays past the Bobcats.

Sarah Huston tallied nine points, eight rebounds and five assists for Johnstown Christian. Kasmira Mack contributed six points and seven rebounds.

Portage 53, Conemaugh Township 29: In Davidsville, Ari Wozniak dropped 16 points as the Mustangs bested the Indians.

Ashlyn Hudak scored 14 points for Portage.

Mya Poznanski led Conemaugh Township with 13 points. Ashlyn Fetterman grabbed seven rebounds and swiped five steals. Jenna Brenneman and Emilee Roman combined for 13 rebounds.

Windber 45, North Star 19: In Boswell, Gina Gaye scored a game-high 18 points to propel the Ramblers past the Cougars.

Cenley Miller netted nine points for North Star.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 60, Meyersdale 27: In Meyersdale, Rylee Snyder scored a game-high 21 points as the Vikings topped the Red Raiders.

Josie Snyder scored 19 points for Shanksville while Liz Salsgiver added 18 points.

Zoe Hetz tallied seven points for Meyersdale.
