Somerset County top performers for basketball, rifle, swimming, wrestling: Jan. 21-27

Athlete of the Week

Elissa Barron, a North Star senior rifle team member, was voted Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week while Salisbury-Elk Lick junior basketball player Daulton Sellers earned Male Athlete of the Week honors for their performances Jan. 14-20.

Barron fired a 286 to lead the Cougars to a victory over Somerset on Jan. 19.

Meanwhile, In two games, Sellers recorded 56 points, including 42 in an overtime victory over Rockwood.

Thursday

Boys basketball

Blacklick Valley 59, North Star 49: In Nanty Glo, Rudy Lanzendorfer scored 17 points to propel the Vikings past the Cougars.

Brock Weimer recorded 16 points for North Star while Brady Weimer added 13.

Conemaugh Township 62, United 50: In Davidsville, a balanced offensive attack led the Indians past the Lions.

Jackson Byer scored 15 points for Conemaugh Township. John Updyke tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds while Michael Shonko and Tanner Shirley each had 14 points.

Windber 64, Conemaugh Valley 50: In East Taylor Township, Blake Klosky recorded 19 points to send the Ramblers past the Blue Jays.

Keith Charney tallied 18 points, five assists and seven steals for Windber.

Logan Kent scored a game-high 27 points for Conemaugh Valley.

Rockwood 38, Turkeyfoot 30: In Rockwood, Josiah Rock netted a game-high 18 points as the Rockets edged the Rams.

Will Latuch pitched in 13 points for Rockwood.

Kameron Kemp scored 13 points for Turkeyfoot. Chris Kozlowski grabbed 14 rebounds.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 57, Salisbury-Elk Lick 43: In Salisbury, Braden Adams paced the Vikings with 22 points in a victory over the Elks.

Christian Musser scored 15 points for Shanksville.

Daulton Sellers led Salisbury with a game-high 31 points.

Berlin Brothersvalley 80, Meyersdale 32: In Berlin, Craig Jarvis dropped 26 points to guide the Mountaineers past the Red Raiders.

Ryan Blubaugh scored 20 points for Berlin while Pace Prosser contributed 10.

Ethan Simpson paced Meyersdale with 14 points.

Harmony 68, Johnstown Christian 30: In Westover, the Bluejays were routed on the road.

Dionte Coleman scored 15 points for Johnstown Christian.

Girls basketball

Blacklick Valley 68, Meyersdale 62: In Meyersdale, Kristin Szymusiak poured in 34 points as the Vikings edged the Red Raiders.

Zoe Hetz recorded 27 points for Meyersdale. Emily Abraham contributed 15 points while Marcy Dupre added 11.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 58, Shade 24: In Cairnbrook, Rylee Snyder scored 26 points as the Vikings cruised past the Panthers.

Josie Snyder tallied 16 points for Shanksville while Liz Salsgiver added 11.

Jenna Muha dropped 17 points for Shade. Alena Dabbs grabbed seven rebounds.

Johnstown Christian 55, Harmony 25: In Westover, Unity Miller scored 22 points as the Bluejays rolled to a victory.

Sarah Huston added 10 points and nine steals for Johnstown Christian.

Rifle

Dubois 1,340, Somerset 1,285: The Golden Eagles fell on the road to the Beavers.

Maryssa Nicklow (271), Matt Shaffer (254), Eric Brant (personal best 254), Caitlyn Beachy (personal best 254) and Garrett Wagner (252) led Somerset.

North Star 1,340, Salisbury-Elk Lick 811: The Cougars roared past the Elks on the range.

Elissa Barron (280), Nicole Rininger (275) and Zach Tedrow (267) were the top three shooters for North Star.

Nolan Easton (216), Alex Channel (205) and Aiden Brant (190) led Salisbury.

Bishop Carroll 55, Somerset 40: In Somerset, the Golden Eagles suffered an LHAC setback to the Huskies.

Aiden VanLenten led Somerset with 14 points.

Girls basketball

Berlin Brothersvalley 68, Shade 33: In Berlin, Ashley Brant poured in 17 points to lead the Mountaineers past the Panthers.

Peyton Grenke tallied 13 points for Berlin while Gracie Sechler added 12.

Jenna Muha scored a game-high 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked five shots for Shade.

Blacklick Valley 59, North Star 14: In Nanty Glo, Kristin Szymusiak scored 17 points as the Vikings tamed the Cougars.

Nikki Zimmerman recorded 16 points for Blacklick Valley.

Abby Barnick led North Star with eight points.

Rockwood 48, Turkeyfoot 20: In Rockwood, Carissa Pletcher scored 12 points as the Rockets soared past the Rams.

Elizabeth Haer added 10 points for Rockwood while Kaitlyn Pletcher recorded eight points, five steals and five assists. Mollie Wheatley contributed nine points.

Maleigha Younkin led Turkeyfoot with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 52, Conemaugh Township 18: In Shanksville, Josie Snyder recorded 16 points, six rebounds and six assists to guide the Vikings past the Indians.

Rylee Snyder racked up 13 points and seven rebounds for Shanksville while Liz Salsgiver added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Mya Poznanski led Conemaugh Township with seven points. Mya Nanna grabbed six rebounds.

Bishop Carroll 59, Somerset 36: In Ebensburg, the Golden Eagles fell to the Huskies.

Gracie Bowers scored 16 points for Somerset. Bella Baumgardner and Mia Rosman combined for 12 points.

Rifle

Conemaugh Township 1,316, Northern Cambria 1,118: Ruby Korenoski fired a 278 to lead the Indians past the Colts.

Gabi Klingenberg (277), Sierra LaPorta (266), Mea Rouser (personal best 248) and Ian Tomlinson (247) rounded out the top five for Conemaugh Township.

Conemaugh Township 79, Salisbury-Elk Lick 27: In Davidsville, Jackson Byer dropped 23 points and went over the 1,000-point plateau as the Indians bested the Elks.

Tanner Shirley contributed 15 points for Conemaugh Township while Michael Shonko added 12.

Daulton Sellers led Salisbury with 13 points.

North Star 80, Meyersdale 39: In Boswell, Brock Weimer netted a game-high 21 points as the Cougars cruised past the Red Raiders.

Brady Weimer and CJ Biery each had 13 points for North Star.

Noah Kretchman scored 11 points for Meyersdale.

Conemaugh Valley 73, Turkeyfoot 51: In Confluence, Logan Kent recorded 31 points to propel the Blue Jays past the Rams.

Zach Malfer scored 19 points for Conemaugh Valley.

Chris Kozlowski had a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds for Turkeyfoot while Kameron Kemp added 14 points.

Greensburg Central Catholic 62, Berlin Brothersvalley 61: In Greensburg, the Mountaineers dropped a non-conference nail-biter to the Centurions.

Craig Jarvis led Berlin with a game-high 26 points, including six 3-pointers. Ryan Blubaugh tallied 19 points while Pace Posser added 14.

Penns Manor 86, Shanksville-Stonycreek 41: The Vikings dropped a non-conference contest to the Comets.

Braden Adams scored 15 points for Shanksville while Christian Musser added 12.

Girls basketball

Shanksville-Stonycreek 52, Greater Johnstown 29: In Shanksville, Rylee Snyder recorded a double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds as the Vikings trounced the Trojans in non-conference action.

Josie Snyder tallied 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for Shanksville.

Berlin Brothersvalley 46 Greensburg Central Catholic 45: In Greensburg, a balanced attack vaulted the Mountaineers past the Centurions.

Ashley Brant scored a team-high 14 points for Berlin. Jenny Countryman and Gracie Sechler each recorded 13 points.

Northern Garrett 69, Meyersdale 60: The Red Raiders suffered a non-conference setback.

Zoe Hetz scored a game-high 29 points for Meyersdale while Amelia Kretchman chipped in 16 points.

Rifle

Conemaugh Township 1,366, North Star 1,346: The Indians edged the rival Cougars behind Gabi Klingenberg's personal best 282.

Ruby Korenoski 277, Ian Tomlinson (personal best 271), Sierra LaPorta (271), and Lydia Boring (personal best 265) rounded out the top five for Conemaugh Township.

Elissa Barron (280), Hunter Snoeberger (personal best 276), Nicole Rininger (273), Zachary Tedrow (263) and Hayden Kobuck (254) were the top five shooters for North Star.

Somerset 1,241, Northern Cambria 1,161: Maryssa Nicklow shot a personal best 273 to lead the Golden Eagles past the Colts.

Matt Shaffer (244), Eric Brant (242), Garrett Walker (241), and Caitlyn Beachy (241) rounded out the top five shooters for Somerset. Sam Smith also shot a personal best 231.

Wrestling

Berlin Brothersvalley 37, North Star 31: In Berlin, Cory Jose pinned Ethan Yoder in the final match of the night to give the Mountaineers a slim victory.

Nic Gerber won by fall for Berlin. Hunter Cornell earned a 3-0 decision while Landon Ulderich claimed an 11-0 victory.

Timmy Tretter won by fall for North Star. Cameron Snoeberger claimed a 10-4 decision while Cayden Turner picked up a 15-5 win.

Somerset 51, Conemaugh Township 18: In Somerset, the Golden Eagles picked up a convincing win over the Indians.

Logan Baker, Deshonn Valentine and Ethan Hemminger each won by fall for Somerset. Rowan Holmes picked up a 9-2 decision.

Tristen Hawkins won by fall for Conemaugh Township.

Windber 72, Meyersdale 27: In Meyersdale, Caden Dusack netted 18 points as the Ramblers downed the Red Raiders.

Keith Charney recorded 14 points, seven steals and five assists for Windber. Dylan Evans added 10 points.

Noah Kretchman and Tyler Sandy combined for 12 points for Meyersdale.

Mapletown 63, Turkeyfoot 58: In Greensboro, the Rams dropped a non-conference contest.

Kameron Kemp tallied 17 points and 13 rebounds for Turkeyfoot. Chris Kozlowski scored 15 points while Bryce Nicholson added 10.

Central Cambria 67, Somerset 56: In Ebensburg, the Golden Eagles were grounded by the Red Devils.

Eli Mumau and Aiden VanLenten each had 17 points for Somerset. Luke Housley contributed 14 points.

Blacklick Valley 50, Rockwood 43: In Rockwood, Rudy Lanzendorfer scored 24 points to pace the Vikings in a victory over the Rockets.

Will Latuch tallied 18 points for Rockwood while Aidan Ream contributed 13.

Central Cambria 40, Somerset 37: In Somerset, the Golden Eagles suffered a narrow setback to the Red Devils.

Bella Baumgardner led Somerset with 15 points while Gracie Bowers added nine points.

Johnstown Christian 35, Dubois Christian 30: In Hollsopple, Unity Miller led the Bluejays to a slim victory, netting a game-high 17 points.

Sarah Huston added 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals for Johnstown Christian.

Rockwood 66, Ferndale 49: In Johnstown, Mollie Wheatley poured in 26 points to go along with 12 rebounds and five steals as the Rockets bested the Yellow Jackets.

Carissa Pletcher recorded 18 points, 10 rebounds and six steals for Rockwood.

Deajah Chatman led Ferndale with 19 points while Angelina Wagner added 13 points.

Forest Hills 1,276, Somerset 1,205: The Golden Eagles dropped a match to the Rangers.

Garrett Wagner (255), Sam Acey (245), Matt Shaffer (241), Maryssa Nicklow (240) and Eric Brant (224) were the top five shooters for Somerset.

Girls

Somerset 125, Richland 35: In Somerset, the Golden Eagles routed the Rams.

Carly Richard picked up four total victories for Somerset. Haley Basala, Hannah Kane, Alyssa Richard and Hope Miller all earned three total firsts.

Boys

Somerset 77, Richland 30: The Golden Eagles swam past the Rams on senior day.

Caleb Antram and Simon McGuire each recorded four total wins for Somerset.
