Somerset gears up for biggest Foodchella yet. Here are some of the food trucks to sample.

SOMERSET — Slades Ferry Park will be a field of dreams for local foodies this weekend, with the return of the much-anticipated Foodchella.

According to organizer Allison Faunce, founder of Somerset's Southcoast Open Air Market and organizer of Foodchella, this fifth Foodchella iteration will be their biggest yet.

"This is the most we can fit, there is a wait list now. We physically cannot fit more food trucks into our space," said Faunce.

Sponsored by SOAM, Memphis Kelle Tap Truck, Ocean State Food Trucks and the Somerset Federal Credit Union, Foodchella 5: Beer + Wine - Spring Edition is slated for Saturday, May 13, from 3 to 9 p.m.

Food festivals are back: See what's rolling into Greater Fall River this spring and summer

"This is like the ribbon cutting of our season," said Faunce, noting that Foodchella usually bookends SOAM, which starts June 3, with a spring and a fall festival.

Faunce anticipates a good turnout, as folks are itching for something to do after months spent in winter hibernation.

"I'm always overwhelmed by the amount of people that come," Faunce said.

Since its inception in 2021, Faunce said the event has grown by leaps and bounds each year. She estimated 10,000-12,000 people attended their last event, and is expecting even more this time around.

"People come rain or shine because it's honestly such a good time," Faunce said. "You get your bellies full but your hearts full too … being around friends and family and just sitting back, relaxing, listening to some good music and enjoying everything local in one spot."

In addition to a field packed with 25 food vendors, visitors can enjoy the return of the beer and wine garden run by Memphis Kelle Tap Truck as well as live music, with performances from Get The Funk Out (3-6 p.m.) and Somerset-based Deja Blue (6-9 p.m.).

They'll also be mixing things up a bit this year, Faunce said.

Since Foodchella 5 falls on Mother's Day weekend, they've also welcomed a handful of artisan vendors — a curated selection of potters, florists, jewelers and more — for those last-minute gift shopping or who want to bring their moms to Foodchella.
