Paramount has released a new trailer for its "Sonic" film

After a disastrous launch of their first trailer, Paramount is trying again. The studio has dropped a new trailer featuring beloved computer and video game hero, Sonic the Hedgehog, this time with less human-looking teeth and bigger eyes. Also missing is the hedgehog's bulging calves.

The movie's official Twitter released the trailer earlier this morning with the caption: "Gotta. Go. Fast! Check out the brand new trailer for #SonicMovie and #CatchSonic in theaters February 14!

Shortly after Sonic the Hedgehog's original film trailer dropped, Director Jeff Fowler announced that the movie's release would be pushed three months for retooling and that they would be "taking a little more time to make Sonic just right." He also used the hashtag #novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie

Sonic the Hedgehog was then slated with a new official release date of February 14, 2020 and the release date for family friendly film Playing With Fire starring WWE star John Cena would be moved up to fill its gap.

Sonic the Hedgehog follows the misadventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his new (and human) friend Tom Wachowski. Sonic and Tom join forces to stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.

The key voice cast for Sonic the Hedgehog includes Ben Schwartz as the titular Sonic, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik.

They're joined by a supporting cast of Neal McDonough, Tika Sumpter and Adam Pally.

The film's official Twitter also released a new poster featuring the new and improved Sonic and Carrey's Dr. Robotnik. An instant response to the new trailer drop saw a fan uploading a side by side comparison of two identical stills with the message, "Comparison of the same shot. Quite striking." Others were quick to chime in with equally positive reactions. One fan wrote, "Man, this makes the old design look even worse than it was," another, "It's kind of gross to look at the old design," another, "So glad they changed it" and another, "The new design is much better." Sony and Fowler must be breathing an initial sigh of relief.

But, they are not safe just yet. The real test will come on February 14, 2020. Hopefully, their financial gamble of retooling the film will pay off and the finished product will combat all of its early negative feedback.
