Sony, Amazon announce new Spider-Man TV Universe series

A TV show based on Marvel’s Korean American superhero Silk has been officially announced as part of a series of upcoming live-action Spider-Man spin-offs.
In “Silk: Spider Society,” which is being developed by “The Walking Dead” showrunner Angela Kang, protagonist Cindy Moon gets bitten by the same radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker (Spider-Man). The show will follow Moon as she "escapes imprisonment and searches for her missing family on her way to becoming the superhero known as Silk."
First hinted to be in development back in 2020, the show has recently been confirmed as the first of several live-action series set in Sony’s Spider-Man TV Universe heading to Prime Video, Sony and Amazon announced.
“I'm beyond thrilled to be joining the Amazon Studios family for this next chapter of my career,” Kang said in a recent statement. “I look forward to working with the executive team on diverse, character-forward, watercooler shows for a global audience and am so excited to dive into my first challenge — bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen.”

Former Sony Pictures Studios chairperson Amy Pascal will join “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller as executive producers of the series.
“Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Sony’s recent live-action and animated reimagining of the Spider-Man franchise has represented some of the most dynamic superhero storytelling in film. Together with Angela Kang’s creative vision, we couldn’t be more pleased to bring Silk: Spider Society to our MGM+ and Prime Video customers," noted Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios.
Originally created by Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott and artist Humberto Ramos, Silk shares similar powers with Spider-Man, including “Silk-Sense,” organic webbing, wall-crawling and superhuman strength.

While Silk has yet to make her live-action debut, the character of Cindy Moon has already been played by actor Tiffany Espensen in recent Marvel films, such as “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”
It has yet to be revealed whether Espensen will return for the role.
