The Sopranos star Drea de Matteo has reflected on previously working with Marilyn Manson in light of the recent abuse allegations made against him.

In February this year, the shock rocker was accused by former partner Evan Rachel Wood of grooming her and subjecting her to abuse “for years”.

In the wake of Wood’s allegations, other women came forward to share their own allegations against Manson, including sexual assault, psychological abuse, and various forms of violence, coercion and intimidation.

Manson has categorically denied the allegations, calling them “horrible distortions of reality” in an Instagram post.

Following De Matteo’s run on The Sopranos as Adriana La Cerva, the long-time girlfriend of Christopher Moltisanti (played by Michael Imperioli), the actor later worked with Manson on FX’s Sons of Anarchy.

Manson had a recurring role as Ron Tully in the final seasons of the gritty crime drama.

Asked by NME about how she reacted to the recent abuse allegations against her former co-star, De Matteo said that she doesn’t “really know much” because she tries to stay away from the news.

“That may sound very irresponsible of me but sometimes with my anxiety level I just sort of have to stay away from it all,” she said.

When asked whether the accusations would make her hesitant to associate with Manson, the actor replied: “I haven’t seen him in many years, but he and I used to be buddies and we had some super crazy fun times together… I don’t live in a world where anybody gives a f*** about what I’m doing, honestly.

“Even though I realise about social media and that whole aspect of this industry – it’s become a circus.”

The 49-year-old added: “But no one’s gonna tell me what to do or who to associate with or stuff like that – I can’t play that game and live in fear so that doesn’t apply to me.”

Most recently De Matteo starred in Paradise City, a new rock and roll drama set in Los Angeles that’s available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
