We’re sorry to see them go: Here are the Charlotte restaurants we’ve lost in 2024

Even as Charlotte’s food and drink scene booms with new openings and constant construction, there is a flip side to all the movement — and not every restaurant makes it.

Long-term favorites sometimes fail to reach lease renewal agreements, especially as older buildings make way for the new developments prevalent in the Queen City. Others can’t attract the crowds needed to make the numbers work. Or staffing challenges, family concerns or a myriad of other complications bring owners to a place where they can’t continue.

No matter the reason, it stings for customers and staff alike.

Hello, 2024 hotspots and hangouts — your guide to Charlotte’s newest restaurants

Here are the restaurants we’ve lost in 2024:

1501 South Mint

Location: 1501 S Mint St, Charlotte, NC 28203

The property at 1501 South Mint was sold to developers, leading to its closure in late January. But Owner Clyde Thomas posted on Instagram: “As this chapter comes to a close, I am filled with a mix of emotions. Sadness for bidding farewell to a place that holds so many cherished memories, but also excitement for the new adventures that await. Change is inevitable, but the love and support I have received will forever remain in my heart.”

The Bevery

Location: 2215 Thrift Rd Suite B, Charlotte, NC 28208

The Bevery, which started out in 2020 as Summit Seltzer and then changed its name in summer 2023, quietly shut down in early 2024. Its website and phone number have been disconnected, and its Instagram has gone silent. Its Facebook page lists the seltzery as temporarily closed.

BLT Steak

Blue Blaze Brewing

Location: 528 S Turner Ave, Charlotte, NC 28208

After an extended dispute over rent pricing due to redevelopment plans, Blue Blaze Brewing has announced it will close in March. “We very much wish that our place here could have continued to be available to us into the future,” managing partner Craig Nunn wrote in a letter to customers. “Our sincerest hope is that we can find a solution and a path forward in a new location and temporarily contract brew with one of our brewery friends in town.”

Chili’s

Location: Arboretum, 8136 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28277

The Chili’s location at the Arboretum closed in early January, citing the expiration of its lease. The shopping center’s McAlister’s Deli location followed suit within a week.

DanielSan

Location: 20822 N Main St, Cornelius, NC 28031

In Cornelius, DanielSan’s owners said goodbye to its customers and closed up shop Jan. 28, citing family commitments to their children. “We had to make a tough decision as parents to change our path. Maybe when they grow older, you’ll see us back. Meanwhile, signing out.”

The DreamChaser’s Brewery

Location: 115 E North Main St, Waxhaw, NC 28173

The DreamChaser’s Brewery in Waxhaw announced an early March closing via Instagram. “With heavy hearts we have to announce the closure of The DreamChaser’s Brewery,” the brewery posted. “This is not something we wanted and we had hoped to keep our legacy going but unfortunately due to forces out of our control our journey has come to an end.”

Eight + Sand Kitchen

Location: 135 New Bern Street Retail A, Charlotte, NC 28209

South End’s Eight + Sand Kitchen closed its doors in early January. “We have enjoyed tremendous neighborhood support and will miss the smiles and friendly faces of the South End community we’ve grown to love,” the team shared on its website. “It’s time for us to focus on other things and let the neighborhood experience something new that we think will be a great fit to the South End food scene.”

Wentworth & Fenn

Location: Latta Arcade, 320 S. Tryon St., Suite 104, Charlotte, NC 28202
