Sosnowski wins 7th term in Illinois State House District 69

Republican incumbent Joe Sosnowski defeated Democrat Peter Janko for State Representative from Illinois' 69th legislative district, which encompasses much of Boone County and sections of Rockford, Cherry Valley and McHenry County.

Sosnowski won with 62.8% of the vote to Janko's 37.2% with an estimated 99% of the vote counted Tuesday night.

“I am grateful to the voters of the far northwestern suburbs and Rockford region for their resounding vote of confidence,” Sosnowski said in statement. “Throughout this campaign, I listened to voters and they connected with my message on lowering the cost of living in Illinois, less taxes, educational opportunity for our kids, and the need to restore balance in Springfield.”

Sosnowski, 45, was elected to his seventh two-year term in the Illinois House of Representatives.

Before he was elected to the Illinois House, Sosnowski served as an alderperson on the DeKalb and Rockford city councils.

Sosnowski was born in Hanover Park, Illinois, and now resides in Rockford. He got his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern Illinois University and works in fundraising.

Janko, 70, is from Marengo and is a Democrat State Central Committeeperson in Illinois’ 11th Congressional District.

Janko has an associates degree in applied sciences with an honors in electronics technology. He has worked as a marketing research analyst, telecommunications products designer and served as president of historic lighting restoration & design for Lumenelle.

State representatives in Illinois serve two-year terms and are paid a salary of $70,645 a year.
