Sotheby's to exhibit Wolf Family Collection in Palm Beach prior to auction

The Wolf Family Collection exhibition will be shown through Sunday at Sotheby's in advance of an April auction in New York.

The exhibit of works from the collection of Erving and Joyce Wolf includes "works of fine and decorative arts, with extraordinary examples of paintings and watercolors, sculpture, early American furniture, silver, Chinese export porcelain, design, and jewelry. In its impressive totality the collection embodies the spirit of American artistry, design, and craftsmanship, spanning the 18th through 20th centuries," according to Sotheby's.com.

The Wolfs began collecting in the 1960s with American Indian rugs, pottery, and jewelry from trading posts while they lived in Denver. Masterpieces by William Merritt Chase — such "In the Studio" — are a centerpiece of the collection along with works by Winslow Homer, John Stow, Tiffany Studios, Frank Lloyd Wright, Greene & Greene and Van Cleef & Arpels, among others.

The couple has endowed The Erving and Joyce Wolf Gallery in the American Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and have made contributions to the Denver Art Museum and the National Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Sotheby's is at 50 Cocoanut Row, Suite 101. It is open 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. today and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
