After spending two seasons in Palm Beach, Sotheby's has found a year-round home on the island.

The famed auction house and art broker, which had its seasonal gallery at the Hibel House during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, has moved into a new gallery and exhibition space at the Slat House at The Royal Poinciana Plaza.

The 2,300-square-foot space at 50 Cocoanut Row previously housed the La Clara real estate agency, and prior to that, Michael R. McCarty’s restaurant.

When it became available earlier this year, Sotheby's jumped at it, said David Rothschild, senior vice president and senior specialist in Private Sales for Sotheby's. The company has signed a long-term lease.

"When that space opened up, we felt like it was an amazing opportunity to take a 2,300-square-foot space with street-facing windows, dedicated parking and an ability for us to retrofit 2,300 square feet into a sublime, premier gallery and exhibition space," Rothschild said.

The gallery will open its doors Nov. 19 when it launches "Condo x Haring: Expressions of the Imagination."

The exhibition of paintings, works on paper and sculpture by Contemporary art icons George Condo and Keith Haring will run through Dec. 31.

It will feature both artists’ signature and most sought-after iconography, said David Schrader, Sotheby’s Global Head of Private Sales.

The exhibition includes 30 works of art illustrating and commemorating the artists' long friendship and the stylistic influence they had on each other, Schrader said. Haring died in 1990.

Pieces range in price from $200,000 to $7 million, and carry a total value in excess of $50 million.

"We’re thrilled to kick off a new season with an exhibition of pivotal works by George Condo and Keith Haring, who are two of the most frequently sold artists in our Palm Beach gallery," Schrader said. "This adds yet another remarkable highlight to the vibrant and burgeoning local art scene."

The exhibit is the first time Condo and Haring have been presented in their own dedicated showcase side-by-side, Rothschild said.

"Works by both Condo and Haring are highly sought-after by collectors and institutions all over the world," he said. "Sotheby’s is thrilled to present a selection of seminal examples to our collecting community in Palm Beach."

Once the Condo and Haring exhibit closes, Sotheby's will present its third collaboration with the Nahmad family. Roughly 10 works will be exhibited, Rothschild said.

After that, the gallery will offer unique programming that includes other gallery collaborations as well Sotheby's various owner and private sales.

The Sotheby's Palm Beach gallery is one of six locations throughout the world. The others are in Aspen, Colorado, East Hampton, New York, Los Angeles, Monaco and Brussels.

Gallery hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Specialist appointments are available by request. For information, call 561-710-8830.
