Soul Haus Kitchen is open for business in Lafayette. See what's on the lunch menu

Tam Nguyen wants to "feed your soul."

Soul Haus Kitchen on Congress Street officially opened its doors Wednesday. Specializing in plate lunches with a strong southern influence, this new restaurant is already creating a buzz.

The restaurant, housed in the former Jambalaya Shoppe that closed earlier this year, gave very little advance insight into what it would serve when it opened, but that seemed to make people more anxious to try.

Before closing on its first day of operation, Soul Haus sold out of several menu items, especially side dishes. The crew members assured customers throughout the day "the food is going to blow you away!"

The menu consists of three rotating plate lunch options with red beans and rice as a weekday staple. Saturday has the most extensive menu, and Sunday features three barbecue options.

Aside from the daily menu, there are three fried options. You can always order chicken, catfish and shrimp. Each plate is served with your choice of two sides and a dinner roll or cornbread muffin.

Soul Haus offers nine side options, which allows for dozens of combinations for your favorite plate lunch.

The hours of operation for the business are from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday. You can connect with Soul Hause Kitchen on Facebook. They are located at 4150 W Congress St., Lafayette.
