'The Sound of Music's' 50th Anniversary: What the Stars Are Doing Now

Five decades since The Sound of Music first sang its way into audiences' hearts on March 2, 1965, the film's legacy lives on.

The 1965 classic, which stars Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and Nicholas Hammond, among others, paved the way for musical films, scoring five Academy Award wins and peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with its 29-track soundtrack.

In 2013, Carrie Underwood starred in the leading role in The Sound of Music Live! —NBC's television special produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Most recently, Lady Gaga paid tribute to the film at the 87th annual Academy Awards with a showstopping performance of four of the soundtrack's greatest hits, including "The Sound of Music" and "My Favorite Things."
