Sound Transit Expands Service For Sounder Trains, Link Next Month

SEATTLE, WA — Sound Transit plans to add more service across its system beginning in late September, as ridership gradually begins to rebuild.

On Sept. 19, Seattle's Link light rail trains will every eight minutes on weekdays. Trains will run every 15 minutes on weekends and during off-peak hours, and every 30 minutes in the evening.

The Tacoma Link will continue normal service.

Starting Sept. 21, the Souther South line will add two round trips to the weekday schedule, for a total of nine. The 514, 1518, 1520 and 1522 northbound departures from Tacoma will be suspended, along with 1501, 1505, 1507 and 1509 southbound departures from Seattle.

No changes are planned for Sounder North service, which remains limited to two round trips. The 1701 and 1705 departures out of Everett are suspended, along with the 1700 and 1704 departures out of Seattle.

September will also bring the restoration of full service for the route 512 ST Express bus. Routes 541, 544, 555, 556 and 567 remain suspended.

Sound Transit said it plans to continue the level of service through the next planned service change in March 2021. Work is underway on a proposed service plan for next year, with more information expected in the next few weeks.

All passengers are still required to wear face coverings, practice physical distancing and follow other health guidelines.
